God's Concurrence In Human Action, John Theodore Mueller Dec 1951

God's Concurrence In Human Action, John Theodore Mueller

Concordia Theological Monthly

In presenting the doctrine of divine providence, the teachers of the Christian Church usually stress, in the first place, God's actual conservation of all created things, by which His creatures persist both in their being and their operation (in esse suo ac vi operandi). Should their categories at times appear as rather scholastic or academic, it is well to remember that they were endeavoring to clarify and preserve intact in its purity the somewhat mysterious Scripture doctrine of God's actual participation in creatural action against the two fundamental fallacies of erring human reason: fatalism and atheism.

The formal principle deals with the source of the doctrines or teachings while the material principle concerns itself with the central point or core idea of doctrine, in the light of which the entire system must be viewed and evaluated. The Jehovah Witnesses claim that their formal principle is the Bible. It shall be the purpose of our third chapter to study this claim while this chapter shall confine itself with the material principle

The History, Doctrines, And Customs Of The Amish Mennonite Church, Robert N. Raabe

Bachelor of Divinity

This dissertation is an account of the conservative descendants of the party known during the Reformation as the Anabaptists. That group of people has been viciously denounced by practically every historian since the Reformation. Few peop1e have dated to defend the Anabaptist party. Most of the criticism directed at them is undoubtedly authentic and unimpeachable. We are not trying to vindicate Anabaptist policies nor whitewash their faults.
