Thy Word Is Still Truth: Essential Writings On The Doctrine Of Scripture From The Reformation To Today, Peter A. Lillback, Richard B. Gaffin Jr.
Thy Word Is Still Truth: Essential Writings On The Doctrine Of Scripture From The Reformation To Today, Peter A. Lillback, Richard B. Gaffin Jr.
Alumni Book Gallery
This new collection of Reformed thinkers' writings from the Reformation to today brings together key documents on the inerrancy of Scripture in one readable volume.
One of the hallmarks of Westminster Theological Seminary since its beginning in 1929 has been a high view of Scripture that reflects the historic Reformed theological and confessional tradition. Thy Word Is Still Truth confirms that Westminster still holds this high view.
The book's title builds on the important influence of E. J. Young s classic book on inerrancy, Thy Word is Truth. This current anthology unapologetically borrows that title, emphasizing an abiding commitment …

To craft informed sermons, pastors scour commentaries that often deal more with minutia than the main point. Or they turn to devotional commentaries, which may contain exegetical weaknesses. The Teach the Text Commentary Series bridges this gap by utilizing the best of biblical scholarship and providing the information a pastor needs to communicate the text effectively. By keeping the discussion of each carefully selected preaching unit to six pages of focused commentary, the volumes in this series allow pastors to quickly grasp the big idea and key themes of each passage of Scripture. The text and its meaning are made …

You Saw You See: Wrestling With And Learning To Trust God Through 1st And 2nd Samuel A Collection Of Poems, Paul Stack
You Saw You See: Wrestling With And Learning To Trust God Through 1st And 2nd Samuel A Collection Of Poems, Paul Stack
Honors Theses
This collection of poems reflects my engagement with the stories and themes in 1st and 2nd Samuel, including forgiveness, God’s will and promises, sin, relationship between man and God, and transformation (I also respond to Psalm 51, in which David responds to events in 2nd Samuel). My engagement involves reinterpretation of Biblical passages, connections to modern contexts and personal stories, and getting inside the stories and moments of Biblical characters such as Samuel, Hannah, Saul and David. Other modern poets doing similar work, like Mark Jarman and John Berryman, explore similar themes but do not focus on 1st and 2nd …

God Made It Happen: A Rhetorical Analysis Of Jerry Falwell's Response To 9/11, Terry Littleton
God Made It Happen: A Rhetorical Analysis Of Jerry Falwell's Response To 9/11, Terry Littleton
Cultural Studies Capstone Papers
Using rhetorical analysis, this project examines the two texts (Listen America! and 700 Club interview after 9/11) of Religious Right preacher, Jerry Falwell to examine conceptual continuity over twenty years and uncover key ideological concepts. While the Religious Right employs many methods to influence the votes of the evangelical congregation, this paper will focus specifically on Falwell and the use of Biblical metaphors in his popular evangelical discourse. The project examines the fear-mongering used to create hate and paranoia in audience of these two texts.

Mentorship In Ministry: Passing The Torch, William N. Downie Iii
Mentorship In Ministry: Passing The Torch, William N. Downie Iii
Senior Honors Theses
Mentorship is a key function of the Church. If intentional effort to pass the torch of ministry through mentorship is not taken, then in one generation the Church will be dead or crippled. Though much has been written on mentorship, most have approached the topic by matching their methods with biblical teaching rather than starting in the Bible and developing their methods from it. A search for examples of mentorship that exist in the Old and New Testament will synthesize to form methods and principles which biblical characters used. These methods and principles are evaluated and then contextualized for the …

Homosexuality And The Bible: A Reconciliation, Emma Belluomo
Homosexuality And The Bible: A Reconciliation, Emma Belluomo
Senior Theses and Projects
For centuries, the Bible has been used as a source of authority on a range of controversial issues, informing Christian perspectives on everything from the legality of slavery to abortion. In recent years, the issue of homosexuality has been extremely contentious in the Christian community, with many arguing a definitively negative position towards the rights of homosexuals from a basis of a few biblical passages. One comes to realize that the references to homosexual behavior are ambiguous at best, and most often are used as part of a greater rhetorical argument rather than focusing on the morality of homosexual behavior …

Revealing God’S Word Through Dramatic Presentations Of Scripture, Randall Buursma, Todd Farley
Symposium on Worship Archive
God reveals himself through his Word; are there ways to present God’s Word in worship that also contribute to God’s revelation? We will explore varied dramatic ways of presenting Scripture using passages from the Sermon on the Mount, showing how one congregation spent several weeks this past fall in a series on Matthew 5-7, exploring the meaning of the text and creating ways to present these words in worship under the leadership of their pastor and coach. Participants will actively engage in these approaches and develop strategies to consider ways they could implement a similar approach in their own congregations.

Scripturalization And The Aaronide Dynasties, James W. Watts
Scripturalization And The Aaronide Dynasties, James W. Watts
James Watts
Priests claiming descent from Aaron controlled the high priesthood of temples in Jerusalem and on Mount Gerizim in the Second Temple period. These Aaronides were in a position to influence religious developments in this period, especially the scripturalization of the Torah. The priests’ dynastic claims were probably a significant factor in the elevation of the Pentateuch to scriptural status. This claim can be tested by correlating what little we know about the Aaronide dynasties with what little we know about the scripturalization of two different portions of the Hebrew Bible, the Pentateuch and Ezra-Nehemiah.
