Sikh Leadership: Establised Ideals And Diasporic Reality, Harinder Singh, Simran Singh
Simran Jeet Singh
As established in the Sikh scriptural canon, ideal leaders internalize qualities of self-sovereignty, intentional servitude, integrative creativity, authentic compassion, and perhaps most significant of all, Divine inspiration. Models of communal decision-making can also be derived from the lives of the Gurū-Prophets (1469–1708 C.E.) and the institutions they established. Though the faith recognizes no clergy class, graduates of historical seminaries often emerge as significant leaders for the Sikh nation. The community outside of the homeland, however, has experienced a lesser effort in the cultivation of leadership. With a primary focus on education, religious centers, youth camps, and retreats have played a …

Women And Leadership In Islam: A Case Study In Indonesia, Arif Rohman
Arif Rohman
Women in leadership positions is a sensitive issue in most Moslem societies. Even though reality has shown that women can compete with men, some people continue to use ‘religious reasons’ to block women’s advancement to leadership roles and maintain the status quo. This article will examine the conservative and liberal thinking about women as leaders in Muslim society especially in Indonesia.

Interview With Richard Blackaby: Reflections On Spiritual Leadership, Leadership, Stan Patterson
Stanley E. Patterson
Dr. Richard Blackaby is the president of Blackaby Ministries International and has written or co-authored with his father 23 books, including Spiritual Leadership: Moving People on to God’s Agenda and Experiencing God. He and his wife, Lisa, make their home in Greenville, South Carolina. There has been so much—some would say too much—written on the subject of leadership during the last decade. Much of this work has influenced leadership behaviors and practices in the context of Christian organizations, but relatively little has emerged from the Christian context that has had the lasting impact of the book Spiritual Leadership: Moving People …

Leadership Principles In 2 Corinthians, Gregory A. Smith
Gregory A. Smith
Paul’s relationship with the church at Corinth provides a detailed leadership case study. This is nowhere clearer than in 2 Corinthians, where every chapter displays Paul’s leadership attitudes and practices. Proceeding from the assumption that Paul’s leadership is worthy of emulation, this guide summarizes his behavior under eight headings:
• Accountability & Integrity
• Mission-Centeredness
• Investment in Followers
• Accurate Self-Concept
• Weakness & Adversity
• Assertiveness & Gentleness
• Advocacy
• Shared Responsibility

What Did Paul Really Mean? A Study Of Paul’S View Of Women In The Church, Steve Curtis
What Did Paul Really Mean? A Study Of Paul’S View Of Women In The Church, Steve Curtis
Steve Curtis
The issue of the role of women in church leadership has become increasingly divisive in modern evangelicalism and has seen strident propagation of polar opposite positions. While many arguments for or against women leadership in the church begin with Old Testament narratives or with the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ interaction with women, all such arguments must, eventually, interact with the writings of the apostle Paul in this regard. Some, of course, dismiss the authenticity (and, therefore, the authority) of much of the Pauline corpus; however, this paper assumes an audience with an orthodox doctrine of the authority of the entire …

Skip Bell
Religious and non-profit organizations seek people who continually experience learning and growth within their work. Such persons will not stop at doing their jobs well; they develop as leaders who in turn create positive transformation within their group. The purpose of this article is to define a transformational leadership development process integrating learning, changing, and doing as the preferred model in the life of a religious or non-profit organization. The outcome will be persons who grow as leaders, experience meaning in their service, and contribute significant organizational change.
