A Theology Of Weakness: Word Studies From The Greek Text Of Ii Corinithians 12:9 In Context With Exegesis Of Seven Select Passages Of Scripture, Marva J. Sedore

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "In his commentary on the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians , R. C. H. Lenski proposes that the verb teleo in II Corinthians 12 :9 is mistranslated . Whereas most translations say, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness , " Lenski believes that the last phrase should read, "for the power is brought to its finish in weakness." It seems that he stands unsupported in this conviction, for my research uncovered no other commentator who suggested such an interpretation."

On The Way To The Truth, Jonathan P. Brewer

A title, like "On the Way to Truth", requires an explanation, in fact, a two-fold explanation. It requires such an explanation because it is both methodologically and thematically suggestive. These aspects of the title will be discussed in the next sections of this introduction. The first of these sections will deal with the methodological implications. The second section will contain an introductory discussion of the subject indicated by the title.

The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit In The Contemporary Church: From A Pentecostal And Charismatic Perspective, Helmut Walter Eisert

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Pentecostal revival and the charismatic renewal of the twentieth century has stimulated interest in both the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the use of such gifts within the framework of Christian ministry. Church leaders and writers have responded with their own feelings and interpretations as to what the Bible is saying about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they are applicable to the church today. Some believe that all gifts are for today's church while others are of different opinion. Such controversy demands new examination as to the Holy Spirit's ministry in the corporate body of …

Ernst Troeltsch's Quest For Certainty, Steven N. Goetz Jan 1978

Ernst Troeltsch's Quest For Certainty, Steven N. Goetz

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

This paper examines the thought of Ernst Troeltsch, specifically in regards to his attempt to show that Christianity is a superior religion among other world religions . The key to understanding Troeltsch's thinking in this regard is to consider his methodological foundation which was historicist. The problem which Troeltsch sought to address throughout his works but especially in The Absoluteness, i. e., how to find universal values within relative historical phenomena, was generated out of his desire for religious certainty while at the same time being consistent with historicist methodology.

Although, in his early career, Troeltsch did find a satisfactory …

Developing Christian Womanhood, Rosalie E. Bader

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The writer of this research paper became interested in the development of Christian womanhood through encounters with teenage girls when working as a sponsor of a church youth group. In a regular meeting the girls were separated from the fellows as a 'lib night' was held and what it means to be a girl was discussed. The girls were eager to know more about what makes them women, how it affects their interpersonal relationships and what difference it makes to be a Christian. As a result the writer became more aware of the wealth of material on today's market written …
