An Evaluation Of Church School Methods In The N.W. Canada Conference Of The Evangelical United Brethren Church, Herbert H. Bock

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Education and religion have been compatible throughout the centuries of civilization. Where there has been religion there has been education in order to propagate the beliefs of religion. A good system of education is absolutely essential in order to adequately propagate the Gospel of Christ.

The teaching methods and educational philosophies prevalent in many of the churches today are influenced by the emphasis in secular and modern educational procedures.

It was the purpose of this study 1) to point out a few of the basic emphases of modern educational procedure; 2) to make an evaluation of the church school methods …

General Principles Of Child Evangelism With Special Reference To The Age Group Six To Twelve, Albert Gackle May 1955

General Principles Of Child Evangelism With Special Reference To The Age Group Six To Twelve, Albert Gackle

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Facts generally accepted in the field of Christian Education show that the boy and girl in the age group of six to twelve is stepping over into another world. Life is becoming very real to them and they require the real, the true, and the genuine to satisfy their longings. They are discriminators between fact and fiction and very frequently note things long before they attract the attention of an adult. Their conscience is yet tender, the impulse to obey is strong, and the implicit faith of the earlier years still lingers with them. It is a time in their …

A Comparative Study In The Field Of Genetics Of The Organic Evolutionary Hypothesis And The Scriptural Account, A. Delbert Rice May 1955

A Comparative Study In The Field Of Genetics Of The Organic Evolutionary Hypothesis And The Scriptural Account, A. Delbert Rice

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Since the beginning of the Church Age, the field of Biblical Apologetics has been the battleground for many acrimonious words and hasty conclusions and the scene of many misunderstandings. Since the advent of the popular exposition of the organic evolutionary hypothesis with Charles Darwin in 1859, many things, based upon a false understanding of the Scriptures or upon a false understanding of scientific evidence, have been said and many accusations made on both sides of the argument. This study has been undertaken to sort from the tons of discussion which have been put forth the few pounds which can be …

A Study Of The Extent Of The Influence Of Selected Jewish Institutions Upon The Apostolic Church Of The First Century, Herbert F. Reinhardt May 1955

A Study Of The Extent Of The Influence Of Selected Jewish Institutions Upon The Apostolic Church Of The First Century, Herbert F. Reinhardt

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Jew of every age has anxiously awaited the coming of his promised Messiah. The Jews just previous to the birth of Jesus Christ were no exception. Although they had a well-organized system of religion they still lacked one thing -- their Messiah. He came and with Him came an immense change in the whole system of worship. Many of the previous institutions, ordinances, and rituals were omitted, others were changed and invested with new meaning, as Christ through the apostles set up the new Christian form of worship and organization. Certain of these institutions which became part of the …

A Study Of The Significance Of Certain Recently Discovered Greek Manuscripts With Reference To New Testament Translation, Henry Karg May 1955

A Study Of The Significance Of Certain Recently Discovered Greek Manuscripts With Reference To New Testament Translation, Henry Karg

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

"The basic document of the Christian Faith is the Greek New Testament." The original sources for the Greek New Testament were the inspired autographs of the various writers of the New Testament books. None of these autographs, however, are known to exist today. All that has come down to us are copies of copies of the original manuscripts.

This question may then be asked: "How can a person be sure that the text of the New Testament in his possession today is accurate and free from error?" In answer to this question it can be stated that "A Study of …

The Administrative Techniques Of The Extension Department Of The Sunday School, Ronald S. Crecelius

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The problem was to present a clear study of the nature, purposes, values and operation of the Extension Department of the Sunday School. It was the writers purpose to present the actual picture of the organization of the Extension Department and its necessity as a regular department of the Sunday School along with its relative position to the church and Sunday School. An attempt was made to present the true picture of the Extension Department by truthfully presenting some of the disadvantages as well as the advantages. Thus the problem may be stated: to find and present the true framework …

A Critical Study Of The Methods Of Higher Criticism, Robert F. Day May 1955

A Critical Study Of The Methods Of Higher Criticism, Robert F. Day

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Beginning with the eighteenth century and continuing to the present certain Biblical scholars segmented the Pentateuch into various documents as to its origin. They claimed the methods of inquiry and principles, by which they determined. the different sources used to write the Pentateuch, were valid. This work was known as Biblical Higher Critic ism, otherwise known as just, Higher Criticism. Conservative Biblical scholarship has thoroughly disagreed with the findings of Destructive Higher Critic ism but little has been written on the methods or principles of inquiry end their application. Most conservative attacks have been at the results rather than investigation …

A Study Of Theories Of Naturalistic Evolution And The Scriptural Account Of Creation, Nilton W. Hopper May 1955

A Study Of Theories Of Naturalistic Evolution And The Scriptural Account Of Creation, Nilton W. Hopper

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

For nearly a full century a war of words has been taking place concerning the origin of this universe, the world, man and animals. There have been many books written on the subject besides many private and public debates. None of these have produced a final and lasting, or for that matter satisfying, answer to the problem.

It was the purpose of this research to present an adequate and accurate, but not a bulky picture of the problem that arises between the theory of Naturalistic Evolution, that science claims to have discovered, and the Biblical account as it is given …

An Inductive Study Of Selected New Testament Synonyms For Sin, Le Roy C. Lindahl May 1955

An Inductive Study Of Selected New Testament Synonyms For Sin, Le Roy C. Lindahl

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "There are a number of words in the New Testament which have to do with the concept of sin. According to Dr. G. A. Turner there are eight roots from which these words are formed to make twenty-eight synonymous derivatives occurring a total of approximately 386 times. These facts have therefore raised the following questions:

  1. Is there a valid reason for so many different words being used to represent sin?
  2. Are these various words used erratically or systematically?
  3. May these words be classified?
  4. If they may be classified, are there any common characteristics within the various classifications?
  5. Again, are …

A Study Of Some Aspects Of Departmental Work In The Children's Division Of Sunday School, John M. Strong May 1955

A Study Of Some Aspects Of Departmental Work In The Children's Division Of Sunday School, John M. Strong

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Teachers in the Sunday School need to know more about the children to whom they minister. Each child must be recognized as an individual and as such, he is a candidate for the promised eternal life that Jesus promised to those who believe on His Name. How can they believe except they be sent teachers who believe on Him? Furthermore, the child is a candidate for leadership in the church in which it may at present be a member of the Children's Division.

The Director Of Christian Education In The Local Church, Vernon R. Kraft

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Christian education in the beginning was taught by God Himself to Adam and Eve, and then from man to man ever since. The methods have been various and unstable, and the results have not always been what God Himself intended for them to be: for the purpose of God was and is to save men, through Christian education, evangelism, or any other procedures through which men works.

A Critical Study Of Youth And Youth Work And A Workable Plan Of Youth Evangelism For The Local Church, Charles L. Ritter May 1955

A Critical Study Of Youth And Youth Work And A Workable Plan Of Youth Evangelism For The Local Church, Charles L. Ritter

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The youth of the United States of America have fallen to the lowest moral and spiritual level of any generation of youth which has yet lived in this country. Never before was there a time when such a majority of the criminals were of the adolescent and youth age. Secular authorities along with moralists and religious leaders are alarmed and are searching earnestly for an answer to the problems of juvenile delinquency. The glamorous advertising of liquor, superemphasizing of sex, glorification of materialism, degeneration of the home, along with numerous other anti-spiritual emphases of the past decade, has produced a …

The Pastor's Relation To The Sunday School In The Oregon Yearly Meeting Of Friends, Leroy V. Myers May 1955

The Pastor's Relation To The Sunday School In The Oregon Yearly Meeting Of Friends, Leroy V. Myers

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The serious mistake has often been made in thinking that the Sunday School and the church were two separate and independent organisations, where the superintendent has been the leader of the former and the pastor the leader of the later. It was the concern of the writer to help bridge this gulf, to encourage the pastor and superintendent to work hand in hand, and to improve the methods whereby I this may be attained. Where there has been a strong and efficient Sunday School there has been a successful church.
