A Study Of The Protestant Conception Of The Priesthood Of Believers, Charles W. Bellus Jun 1952

A Study Of The Protestant Conception Of The Priesthood Of Believers, Charles W. Bellus

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Bible contains several references to the priesthood of believers. Through the years very little has been done to clarify this phrase in the mind of those included. A great portion of what has been done has been in relation to the church and along the line of church government. However, it is not the purpose of this study to stress this aspect. The work that has been done on the personal aspect of the subject is very sketchy and each reference includes few of the actual implications of the subject as discussed in the Bible. Several writers mention the …

An Investigation And Evaluation Of Bishop William Taylor's Missionary Methods, Arthur Thomas Shelton

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "The question has been and is today, which methods are truly apostolic and the most effective in producing lasting results? The purpose for this study of Bishop William Taylor's missionary methods is (1) to discover the particular methods which he himself employed; (2) to compare the conditions under which Taylor's methods were applied with conditions as they prevail today and as they prevailed at the time of Paul, the greatest missionary; (3) to compare his methods with the successful Nevius methods and the Pauline methods; and (4) to discover some basic principles for missionary work which do not change …

A Survey Of Representative Sermonic Approaches In Preaching The Doctrines Of Divine Love And Divine Wrath, Roger Brandon Swaren Jun 1952

A Survey Of Representative Sermonic Approaches In Preaching The Doctrines Of Divine Love And Divine Wrath, Roger Brandon Swaren

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

One of the numerous accusations made against the Bible is that it contains contradictions. The one Book that is unique in every way is in no single phrase more unique than in the matter of its unity: yet it is in regard to that particular facet of truth that many of its enemies delight to aim their weapons, believing it to be a target worthy of a large share of their ammunition and energy. Two of the doctrines that appear to be contradictory are the doctrines of divine love and divine wrath. Are they compatible or are they opposed to …

A Critical Study Of Mormon Doctrine, Dwaine L. Bassett May 1952

A Critical Study Of Mormon Doctrine, Dwaine L. Bassett

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The importance of any movement may be determined, in part, by its claim. If these claims are true, they will demand careful attention of all concerned. The Mormon Church claims to represent "the restoration of the Gospel at Jesus Christ." The foundation tor this assertion is based on the Book of Mormon. This Book states that the Bible in its original form contained a true revelation from God. This Church maintained that the Gospel was not retained in its pure and simple form, tor following the apostles there arose an "abominable church" which deleted many plain and precious parts of …

An Interpretation Of The Problem Of Christian Liberty Within The Realm Of Law, Gerald Gardner May 1952

An Interpretation Of The Problem Of Christian Liberty Within The Realm Of Law, Gerald Gardner

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

One of the perennial problems of the Christian faith is the relationship between law and grace. This constant recurrence is an indication of its basic importance. Extreme positions are unchristian and result in an unholy presentation of the Christian faith.

To the earnest Christian the problem of what to do and what not to do often becomes a serious one. Prior to the acceptance of Christ and His way, and individual's conduct is controlled by the socially accepted standards of his environment. The standards will vary in accordance with each given situation and the average person will feel obligated to …

A Comparative Study Of Views On Prayer As Held By E. M. Bounds, Andrew Murray, And George Arthur Buttrick, Howard W. Perry May 1952

A Comparative Study Of Views On Prayer As Held By E. M. Bounds, Andrew Murray, And George Arthur Buttrick, Howard W. Perry

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Prayer is an interesting subject to some; to others it is foolishness and nonsense. Because men are curious beings and desire to know, and because knowledge is hidden from the wise and revealed unto babes it was studied to see what good was derived from prayer.

The Bible reveals that prayer was used in the Old Testament times. Abraham, Gideon, Daniel, Elijah, and the children of Israel all used it. Abraham used it to accomplish feats, Gideon used it to find God's will for them, Daniel used prayer to stop lion's mouths, Elijah used it to bring rains, and the …

A Comparative Study Of Some Contemporary Views On The Great Tribulation Period, Harvey Ernest Bartram May 1952

A Comparative Study Of Some Contemporary Views On The Great Tribulation Period, Harvey Ernest Bartram

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Jesus, speaking to his disciples, as recorded in the Gospel according to Matthew, makes this statement: "For then shall be great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no nor ever shall be. And except those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect's sake these days shall be shortened." In these words, Jesus expresses in a very clear manner a truth that is reflected in the Old and New Testaments alike. In this statement Jesus is giving, almost word for word, a prophecy uttered by Daniel …

A Study Of The Contribution Of The Hymn To The Worship Service, C. Auburn Witt May 1952

A Study Of The Contribution Of The Hymn To The Worship Service, C. Auburn Witt

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The purpose of this study is to determine the values within the hymn and their relative contributions to the worship service of the church. As an element of the worship, the hymn is observed to be incorrectly evaluated and understood. It is hoped that by careful observation and discussion, some new contributions can be added to the fund of knowledge which will aid in man 's worship of God.

A Study Of The Mosaic Sacrifices To Discover Their Primary Meaning And Typical Significance, Donald Bletscher

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "When the writer of this thesis was about ten years of age, he heard a statement which caused him a great deal of concern. The statement was made by a woman who was held as practically "the ideal" in Christian womanhood. She was a Sunday School teacher, which position alone gave her considerable esteem and authority in the boy's mind. The statement was only a passing remark in the course of a conversation with the writer's mother, but it struck a chord in the heart of that ten year old boy which made him doubt the truth of the …

A Study Of The Missionary Call As Found In The Acts Of The Apostles And In Modern Missionary Biography, Leo Maze Thornton May 1952

A Study Of The Missionary Call As Found In The Acts Of The Apostles And In Modern Missionary Biography, Leo Maze Thornton

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

To the sincere and enquiring mind a very fundamental question has been asked many times. Why do missionaries leave their homes, people, comforts, and security for the uncongenial people of a far off country? This has posed as a problem since the early life of the Apostle Paul.

A History Of The Northwest Washington Holiness Association And Camp Meeting: Ferndale, Washington - 1902-1952, Wayne F. Kildall

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

With the expanding of western frontiers of the United States came the pioneer missionaries and preachers. These preachers were men of God who feared not man nor beast, but preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ "to the uttermost part of the earth."

Among these fearless men were ministers of the Methodists, the Evangelical Association, and others who had pledged themselves to bring the message of scriptural holiness to the new and expanding area of the great Northwest.

A Comparative Study Of Four Contemporary Views On The Differences Between The Carnal And Spiritual Christian, Edgar Frederick Albee May 1952

A Comparative Study Of Four Contemporary Views On The Differences Between The Carnal And Spiritual Christian, Edgar Frederick Albee

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Since the days of Calvin and Arminius there has been theological controversy among the various branches of evangelical Protestantism. The underlying cause of this struggle has been the differences of convictions concerning the sin problem that have existed between these groups, and because many of these differences have culminated in bitterness, the Kingdom of God on earth has suffered great reverses. The vital need of the hour among the various evangelical denominations is a redefining of each other's point of view in order that a harmonious relationship be established among these groups.

A Comparative Study Of Some Contemporary Views On The Great Tribulation Period, Harvey Ernest Bartram

A Critical Study Of The Problem Of Religious Authority Within Western Christendom, Carl-Reid Duhrkoop Apr 1952

A Critical Study Of The Problem Of Religious Authority Within Western Christendom, Carl-Reid Duhrkoop

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

For centuries, the human mind has struggled with the problem of ultimate truth, but many times it has been turned back frustrated. Some have gone so far as to deny any possibility of having certain knowledge . Others would echo the question of Pontius Pilate: "What is truth?" To these uncertain ones, Pilate's question refers to whether or not there' are any val id norms, or if any objective standard actually exists. Their answer would be that they do not know "for sure" .

A Proposed Plan And Curriculum For Teacher-Training In The Oregon-Washington Conference Of The Evangelical United Brethren Church, Robert D. Bennett Apr 1952

A Proposed Plan And Curriculum For Teacher-Training In The Oregon-Washington Conference Of The Evangelical United Brethren Church, Robert D. Bennett

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Throughout its history, the work of the Sunday school has been willingly carried out by corps of godly, voluntary workers. The major portioned of the educational efforts of the Church has fallen upon this agency. These volunteers have carried on their work with little training in educational principles and techniques. They have had but little more personal training in the systematic study of the Bible, the history of the Church, and its doctrines. God has honored these sincere, conscientious efforts with a measure of success which has resulted largely from native ability. In order that future efforts might be more …

A Comparative Study Of The Views Concerning The Antichrist As Held By Joseph A. Seiss, William E. Blackstone, And Arno C. Gaebelein, Arthur Cobb

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The world today has troubled visions of what tomorrow will bring in the realm of politics. The relations between a man and his fellow men, a nation and her sister nations, the world and its Ruler, occupy a large place in modern thought. This concern about the future, and what it will bring, has been the motivating force of this study of the doctrine of the Antichrist.

A Comparative Study Of The Problem Of Evil As Set Forth In The Views Of John W. Fletcher, Edgar Sheffield Brightman, And Edwin Lewis, Norman A. Riggins

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Problem of Evil stands as one of the major topics of Philosophy and Theology throughout the history of thought. The very nature of evil is elusive to the unaided human reason, and presents much room for speculation. This does not minimize the problem for, "In a day such as this, men and women are seriously troubled with the problem of evil." The fact of evil cannot be escaped, therefore it is of prime importance to all who attempt to think through on the major problems of life. Evil is around us on every hand. "We try to ignore it …
