The Vine Of God : A Study In Discipleship According To John 15:1-16, Paul Robert Biegner
Bachelor of Divinity
This paper is intended to be a study into the Biblical idea of the Vine of God as a word picture describing God’s people in both the Old and New Testaments. Specifically, the problem this investigation hopes to shed light upon.is this: in the light of God's dealings with His Old Testament Vine, what distinctive accents and emphases does the Vine-branches Analogy give to personal discipleship with God through Christ, the True Vine?
The Old Testament Background Of The Exodus Motif In Matt. 2:15; 20:28; Acts 7:36, James B. Ilten
The Old Testament Background Of The Exodus Motif In Matt. 2:15; 20:28; Acts 7:36, James B. Ilten
Bachelor of Divinity
This thesis is based on two principal assumptions. First, the Scriptures of the Old Testament ate on an equal level as God’s inspired revelation to His Church. Second, the historic acts of God in the Old Testament attain their full significance in the person and work of Christ. The writer intends to execute the principle of the analogy of Scripture in the context stated by E. E. Flack.
The Terminology Of The Ark Of The Covenant, Kenneth K. Miller
The Terminology Of The Ark Of The Covenant, Kenneth K. Miller
Bachelor of Divinity
The problem under investigation is not a single problem, but multiple. It deals with the terminology connected with the Ark of the Covenant. There are some important technical terms that are either directly or indirectly connected with the Ark. During the course of Old Testament research in the last century these terms and the Ark itself have, for various reasons, acquired a great many connotations. The Ark has been explained as a fetish-box that contained a meteorite or a piece of stone from Mount Sinai, as a divine throne, as a container for sacred divination-stones, as a shrine of the …
The Kingdom Of God In The Old Testament, Robert Edward Wolter
The Kingdom Of God In The Old Testament, Robert Edward Wolter
Bachelor of Divinity
The sole purpose of this thesis is to trace the origin of the Kingdom of God from the beginning of time, creation, to the time of Christ. The development of the Kingdom of God will be traced through four specific areas: the Patriarchal, the Mosaic, the Royal, and the Prophetic. Within each of these areas it should be kept in mind that God is using people to spread His Kingdom. The fourth chapter will give a brief summary of the Jewish concept concerning the Kingdom. As for reference to the Covenant Idea, the Son of Man in Daniel, the Suffering …
The Influence Of The Babylonian Captivity On The Religion Of The Jews, Arthur C. Dueker
The Influence Of The Babylonian Captivity On The Religion Of The Jews, Arthur C. Dueker
Bachelor of Divinity
It is the purpose of this paper to uncover the importance and the influence of this exile upon the religion of the Jews, more especially, to understand the changes which the Babylonian Captivity brought upon the religion of the Jews. For it was during the exile in Babylonia that the Jews changed as a people, as a nation, and, what is most important of all, as a religious society. These changes and developments, which occurred during the exile, have remained until the present day and are of the utmost importance in our understanding of the Jewish people.
The Meaning Of The Passion In The Light Of The Word Pictures Used By Jesus, Arthur F. Gronbach
The Meaning Of The Passion In The Light Of The Word Pictures Used By Jesus, Arthur F. Gronbach
Bachelor of Divinity
Since these word pictures were taken from the heritage of the people of His day and therefore had a certain meaning before Jesus used them, it appears a fair inference that Jesus Himself had a definite purpose in using precisely the terms that He did. Undoubtedly He intended to convey a special meaning to His disciples through those terms. The discovery of that meaning should help illuminate Jesus' passion for us. This thesis, then, will attempt to answer two questions. First, what was there in the meaning of those expressions that caused Jesus to use them in predicting and describing …
An Historical Survey Of The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit In The Old And New Testaments And Intertestamental Periods, Ralph Frederick Juengel
An Historical Survey Of The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit In The Old And New Testaments And Intertestamental Periods, Ralph Frederick Juengel
Bachelor of Divinity
Since the Holy Spirit is only referred to explicitly three times in the Old Testament, the reader is amazed that such a jump can be made by John, or Christ for that matter, when speaking about the Holy Spirit, without having to explain just whom they mean. The Jews never take issue with the term in the New Testament. Apparently there must have been some doctrine or teaching prevalent in Christ's day, upon which the fuller revelation is based. The problem of this thesis is to try and find a bridge for the gap between the periods. This demands a …

On the basis of this outline certain leading conclusions can be formed by comparing the principle themes in each writer. In this way the basic unity and the significant diversity of their outlook can be summarized.

The Day Of Yahweh- Its Background And Usage In Selected Prophets, Walter Emil Rast
The Day Of Yahweh- Its Background And Usage In Selected Prophets, Walter Emil Rast
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this study is to deal with some of the problems relevant to this broad, prophetic idea. This involves concerning ourselves, with the origin of the idea, and the form it took in the prophetic mind. As a result, we have devoted the first chapter to an investigation of certain problems connected with the origin and background of the idea. In the second and third chapters, our concern is with the concept as it unfolds itself in the prophetic books. In both these chapters, our intent is one of comparison and contrast, in seeking both common and diverse …
For Christ Is The End Of The Law For Righteousness To Everyone That Believes Romans 10:4, Howard Raymond Hilsabeck
For Christ Is The End Of The Law For Righteousness To Everyone That Believes Romans 10:4, Howard Raymond Hilsabeck
Bachelor of Divinity
Thus Christ did not end the law--period! In spite of the legalism in His and Paul's day and in spite of the prevailing idea of seeking righteousness by means of the law among the Jews, the apostle is not flatly declaring that Christ ended the law. It is the care of the writer to make this clear. It is also the intention of the writer to make clear what "law” in Romans 10:4 and in what sense Christ ended that law. Our investigation will Deal in depth with the words Τ́ελας and νόμος, bringing in δικουοσ́ννγ and πίστις as they …
The Life And Times Of Hezekiah, King Of Judah, Harold H. Luke
The Life And Times Of Hezekiah, King Of Judah, Harold H. Luke
Bachelor of Divinity
It is hoped that this paper will contribute to a better understanding of those critical days of old, and that the reader will acquire a deeper appreciation of the virtues and shortcomings of the ancient stalwarts who march across its pages. If this thesis fails to do this, it is not the fault of the subject matter, but that of the writer.
The Doctrine Of Salvation According To The Minor Prophets, W W. Bentrup
The Doctrine Of Salvation According To The Minor Prophets, W W. Bentrup
Bachelor of Divinity
A complete and thorough study of the doctrine of salvation presented in the Old Testament is beyond the scope of a Bachelor of Divinity thesis. Several factors made it advisable to restrict the research to the Minor Prophets. Nevertheless, to complete the picture, a brief survey of what the Old Testament has to say on the subject of salvation is naturally in place in order to supply the necessary background for the thesis.
The Attitude Of St Paul Toward Gentiles, Luther W. Meinzen
The Attitude Of St Paul Toward Gentiles, Luther W. Meinzen
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this thesis is not to trace the history of the Spread of Christianity among the early Gentiles through the instrumentality of Paul – although glimpses of this expansion may be given at intervals for the purpose of orientation and background; the object of this study is rather to sketch the attitude of St. Paul toward Gentiles as such and toward their inclusion in the Church- as far as can be determined from available information.
The Tabernacle Of Jehovah, Herman R. Mayer
The Tabernacle Of Jehovah, Herman R. Mayer
Bachelor of Divinity
Perhaps some of the most neglected chapters in the Bible are those which give a concise description of the sanctuary. They are neglected by Bible readers and students alike. Many who read through the Exodus account find the subject matter lacking in excitement or too involved to give it a little thought. Even Bible students are inclined to read through this particular section in such haste that they remove every opportunity of giving the structure of the Sanctuary careful consideration. A study of the Sanctuary therefore should be a challange to every one who holds a claim on interest in …
Henotheistic Abberatons In Ancient Israel, Robert Wiltenburg
Henotheistic Abberatons In Ancient Israel, Robert Wiltenburg
Bachelor of Divinity
In our present discussion we shall use the term “henotheism" in its generally accepted sense as referring to a belief in the supremacy of one god in a particular locality, while the existence of other gods in other places is taken for granted. It is, or course, not true that Jehovism as a religious system recognized such tenets. Scripture affords ample evidence to the effect that the great, inspired religious teachers of the Hebrews, such as Moses, Samuel, David, the prophets, and others, had a clear knowledge of the sole position of Jehovah as God of the universe. That this …
Jewish Fidelity To The Law In The New Testament, Bernard Wittrock
Jewish Fidelity To The Law In The New Testament, Bernard Wittrock

Religious Conditions In Israel In The Age Of Eli And Samuel, Paul Sohn
Religious Conditions In Israel In The Age Of Eli And Samuel, Paul Sohn
Bachelor of Divinity
To exhibit in its origin and growth the new order of things, which Samuel had introduced, the prophetic historian of the books of Samuel goes back to the time of Samuel’s birth and makes us acquainted not only with the political oppression under which Israel was suffering but also with the religious conditions at the close of the period of the Judges and during the high priesthood of Eli. He pictures to us the religious decline under Ell.
Old Testament Temple Worship, Edwin Jording
Old Testament Temple Worship, Edwin Jording
Bachelor of Divinity
Modernist deny the fact that Sacrifices belonged to the essence or the Old Testament Temple worship. They declare the Old Testament sacrifices to have been foreign elements in the Old Testament worship, tolerated by Moses, but criticized by the prophets. One of the prophecies quoted to show that the Lord disapproved of the sacrifices of Israel is Isaiah 1,11. Every unprejudiced reader of the Bible, however, will see that sacrifices constitute the center of the Old Testament worship. For God accepted these sacrifices as an atonement for sins because they pointed to the complete sacrifice of Christ.
The Servant Of The Lord In Isaiah Fifity-Three, John Paul Uhlig
The Servant Of The Lord In Isaiah Fifity-Three, John Paul Uhlig
Bachelor of Divinity
Who is meant in chapter fifty-three? Critics have split into many camps. Some hold that Isaiah is speaking of all Israel; some, that he designates only the pious in Israel; while certain ones hold that the prophet is speaking of some individual. The Christian Church has, however, from the very beginning held that Isaiah is speaking of the Messiah. And that this is the true interpretation is pointed out at length in the following chapters. In one section of sixteen verses the evangelist of the Old Testament points a picture of the work of Christ. His humiliation is stressed as …
The Prophets Of The New Testament Church, Gerhardt C. Asmus
The Prophets Of The New Testament Church, Gerhardt C. Asmus
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this study, therefore, is to find out as much as possible about the prophets of the New Testament Church, to find out who they were, where they were found, and what was their function, and what was their influence in the early Christian Church. The study is so organized as to give the reader a brief overview of the prophetic institution prior to the time of the New Testament Church first, as this will lend to a better understanding of those chapters which speak of the New Testament prophets themselves. Whenever Scripture is quoted, the Authorized Version …
The Morality Of The Book Of Judges, Otto F. Stahlke
The Morality Of The Book Of Judges, Otto F. Stahlke
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this paper is not to establish the moral standard obtaining in this period of disorder, as though the standard of Jehovah were inferior to that of a later day, in that the deeds of God's specially chosen deliverers, were to be an example to His people also morally, thereby making the standard. An objective examination of this morality would prove it the same as the Biblical morality of any other age; but that lies beyond our discussion. Again the purpose is not to prove that the Judges or God's people did nothing contrary to the moral law …
The Difficult Verses Of The Song Of Deborah Expounded, E A. Schack
The Difficult Verses Of The Song Of Deborah Expounded, E A. Schack
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this thesis is to give a translation of the entire Song and offer a tenable solution of the linguistic difficulties found therein, established on sound biblical exegesis, and not by corrupting the text, as critics have done and yet do; for that mititates against the clear conception or Holy Writ.
The Sunday And The Sabbath In The Light Of The Bible, Oscar H. Marten
The Sunday And The Sabbath In The Light Of The Bible, Oscar H. Marten

The Doctrinal Content Of Isaiah's Prophesy, Fred Kramer
The Doctrinal Content Of Isaiah's Prophesy, Fred Kramer
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this thesis is to show how much doctrine the Prophesy of Isaiah contains. The result of my studies shows that, with the exception of the doctrine of Baptism, and the Lord's Supper, every important doctrine of the Bible is found more or less complete in this wonderful book. Proof of this statement may be had in the thesis itself.
