The Apostles Creed: Articles Of Faith For The 21st Century, Brian Schmisek Jan 2008

The Apostles Creed: Articles Of Faith For The 21st Century, Brian Schmisek

Brian Schmisek

The third book in the For Religious Educators series providing Resources for Catholic Administrators and Religious Educators in the Knowledge of the Faith addresses the Apostle's Creed. As Catholics, we hold the Apostles Creed as a great gift summarizing the belief of the early apostles and calling us to share in that same faith. Two thousand years later we still hold this creed as an important summary of our faith and a link to the first apostles of the Church. A very helpful study of the Apostles' Creed and discusses it in a way that it continues to relate to …

Trapped In The Creation Museum, Stephen Asma Jan 2008

Trapped In The Creation Museum, Stephen Asma

Stephen T Asma

Into the swampy debate over evolution has waded the new Creation Museum, in Petersburg, Ky. In an America divided between those who accept Darwin's theories and those who believe God created the world in six days, it seeks to win moderates and compromisers over to its side. Shortly after the museum opened last spring, I made a pilgrimage to witness this quirky new spectacle of Americana...

Making A Home For All In God's Compassionate Community: A Feminist Liberation Assessment Of Christian Responses To Homelessness And Housing, Laura Stivers

Laura Stivers

The American dream includes owning a home, and the bigger the better. Christian responses to homelessness and housing vary. Some Christian organizations focus on fixing the person and the behaviors that contribute to homelessness. Others promote home ownership for low-income households. Employing aspects of Traci West's feminist liberationist ethical methodology, I will assess how these approaches buy into our culture's dominant ideology on housing or offer prophetic disruption. Then I will outline an advocacy approach that addresses the multiple causes of homelessness and prophetically aims to make a home for all in God's compassionate community.
