This collection consists of various editions of architectural guides to buildings and homes in Cabell County, WV, with special attention paid to the Marshall University Campus. These guides offer walking or driving tours of the areas, and are divided by sections in Huntington and by city/area (Barboursville, Milton, Guyandotte & Greenbottom). The guides are intended to acquaint visitors to the area with its architectural history and to inspire those who live in the area to more fully appreciate their surroundings. These are all rough, uncompleted drafts of the guides, and edits and corrections can be found on many pages. Digital …

Dr. Robert P. Alexander graduated from Marshall University in 1959. After graduating, Dr. Alexander was hired by Marshall University and traveled to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia to recruit prospective students. It was here he became interested in the town of Cass, WV. In 1969, Dr. Alexander completed his doctorate and became a professor of management and marketing. Dr. Alexander was also the Dean of Marshall University’s College of Business and also served sixteen years on Huntington, WV’s city council. This collection consists of correspondence, photographs, a scrapbook, clippings, and ephemera related to Marion Vest Fors' murals which were painted in the James E. Morrow Library as part of the centennial celebration of Marshall College. The murals were removed for remodeling circa 1966 and remounted in 2005. The scrapbook was created by Fors about her creation of the mural to justify its emergence from storage and reuse in the Morrow Library. Also included in the collection are paintbrushes used in the painting of the murals.

This collection consists of photographs of Himlerville, the Himler Coal Company town, as well as scanned copies of photographs of 1937 and 1943 flood damage, and a survey book by George H. Gunnoe Jr. containing detailed surveys of Marshall College buildings by engineering students in 1937.

This collection is principally composed of a diary written by Robert A. Grant while he was a student at Marshall between 1933 and 1938. The diary covers Grant’s life as a student and his work in the Anderson-Newcomb department store. Additional materials include copies of the Parthenon published after the 1970 Marshall plane crash, a copy of the Greenline with Grant’s name in it as a donor, two algebra textbooks from 1903 and 1904, and newspaper clippings about an October 1970 riot in Huntington.

This collection consists of two folders containing materials disparate in subject matter: one consisting of a list of many descendants of John Marshall compiled by Sam Clagg for Marshall University’s Sesqui-Centennial Committee in 1987, another of materials sent to Marshall University by one of these descendants. The folder compiled by Sam Clagg with a list of descendants includes an address for each one. Also included in the same folder are three letters regarding the acquisition of Marvin L. Plummer, president of Marshall College and the Marshall Business College respectively, to recruit the Osburns/Osbornes to attend Marshall. This collection includes Marshall College ephemera from 1904-1906, including advertising pamphlets, a 1905 copy of The Parthenon, general course information, and empty envelopes.

The accession record states that this collection included a cylindrical photograph of the Marshall College student body in May of 1930, however, this item was not found when the collection was processed.
