Theology Of The Church As Ministry To Blind People, David Andrus May 2008

Theology Of The Church As Ministry To Blind People, David Andrus

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Throughout history, people who are blind have been viewed by those in the sighted culture as limited and broken. This is true both in the church and in society in general. Our ecclesiology, however, should encourage, promote, or utilize blind people and their gifts to serve in the body of Christ. The church can, and should, accept, uplift, and utilize people who are blind and visually impaired as full members with a healthy and whole identity in Christ. To this end, our ecclesiology must not prohibit the ordination of a man who is blind solely on the basis of blindness …

The Educational Needs Of The Adult Layperson Concerning The Mission Of God_Research Towards Writing An Introductory Adult Mission Education Course, Stephen Gaulke

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

What are the educational needs of an adult layperson concerning world mission? What ought an introductory adult mission education study course attempt to teach? This thesis endeavors to answer the question in three chapters.

Chapter One articulates a concise theology of mission. Rooted in Scripture, especially the mission commands of the risen Savior, and drawing on the Apostles' Creed, The Book of Concord, and Martin Luther, Chapter One sketches the "who, what, where, when, why, and how" of God's mission.

Chapter Two surveys mission professionals to discover what they believe an introductory adult study course on world mission ought to …

The Theology And Practice Of Individual Confession And Absolution And Its Application To Pastoral Care From An Early North American Lutheran Perspective, Breno C. Thome May 1985

The Theology And Practice Of Individual Confession And Absolution And Its Application To Pastoral Care From An Early North American Lutheran Perspective, Breno C. Thome

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The two subjects of this study^ namely, pastoral care and Individual confession and absolution, have traditionally been seen as closely connected. Each has also a unique character. In this study both subjects will be focused on from the perspective provided by the historical analysis of their development within the Lutheran context, specifically that of North American Lutheranism in the nineteenth century. Pastoral care has been greatly developed, particularly in the area of pastoral counseling, in the last fifty years. This parallels the increasing development of the behavioral sciences in this century. The causes and consequences of such rapid growth in …

The Correlation Of Selected Malady Concepts Of Psychotherapy With Their Theological Counterparts, As Evidenced In The Pastoral Counseling Literature Of 1945-1957, Robert E. Rediehs May 1970

The Correlation Of Selected Malady Concepts Of Psychotherapy With Their Theological Counterparts, As Evidenced In The Pastoral Counseling Literature Of 1945-1957, Robert E. Rediehs

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The basic concern of this paper is whether or not psychotherapy and theology have anything to do with each other. There is much feeling in Christian tradition about the extent to which extra-theological studies relate to theology. The present paper will not deal with the efforts which have been made to point out a dissimilarity between these fields. Rather it hypothesizes that psychotherapy and theology are, in some sense, related, and that this can be demonstrated in the terminology and meanings of pastoral counseling.

Liturgical Reform At Vatican Ii- A Lutheran Appraisal, Philip Stephan May 1968

Liturgical Reform At Vatican Ii- A Lutheran Appraisal, Philip Stephan

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

In order to update the liturgy and the rites of worship, the Church cannot afford to assume this task of renewal in a haphazard way because she has been entrusted with the truth of the Gospel. The truths of the Gospel are the substance of the Holy Scriptures and the Eucharist, and are contained particularly in the primary liturgy of the Church. A reformation of the liturgy of the Holy Eucharist, with which this study is concerned, must retain the substance of the Gospel in the liturgy. The problem this thesis will investigate and seek to answer is: Is it …

Roman Catholic, Lutheran, And Calvinistic Conceptions Of The Kingdom Of God As They Relate To The Role Of The Church In The World, Hans Bruss May 1964

Roman Catholic, Lutheran, And Calvinistic Conceptions Of The Kingdom Of God As They Relate To The Role Of The Church In The World, Hans Bruss

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This is a comparative study of Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and Calvinistic conceptions of the Kingdom of God as they relate to the role of the Church in the world.

The concept of the Kingdom is common to all periods of our Lord's teaching, but the concept of the Church appears only at two special points of His ministry: Matt. 16:18 and Matt. 18:17. New Testament scholars have explored this relationship of Kingdom and Church and have given various interpretations. In our opinion the Church of Jesus Christ is the product of the Kingdom of Christ, of His gracious rule. The …

An Annotated Translation Of Georg F Vicedom's Missio Dei, Dennis Hilgendorf Jun 1962

An Annotated Translation Of Georg F Vicedom's Missio Dei, Dennis Hilgendorf

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The present thesis is offered as a contribution towards the study of a theology of missions. The Translator's Appendix and the majority of the footnotes are the work of the writer; the rest of the thesis is a translation of Georg F. Vicedom's Missio Dei, published by the Chr. Kaiser Verlag of Munich, Germany. Although the work reveals continental flavor and concerns, it is my conviction that by its range and depth it will appeal to a far wider constituency in the West as well as those areas where religion is making a fresh impact.

Contributions Of The Confessions To A Lutheran Philosophy Of Education, John Mager Jun 1960

Contributions Of The Confessions To A Lutheran Philosophy Of Education, John Mager

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Because of the central place which the Confessions give to the doctrine of justification we feel that we can do nothing less than make this doctrine the unifying principle in this thesis. We do so for this reason that the unifying principle or a Lutheran philosophy of education cannot be much diverse from the material principle of its theology. If theology is the basis or the foundation upon which the superstructure of a Lutheran philosophy of education can be built up, then the two and their unifying principles are more closely related than we might assume.

Some Representative Contemporary Concepts Of The Manifestation Of God In History And Creation, Herman Otten Jun 1958

Some Representative Contemporary Concepts Of The Manifestation Of God In History And Creation, Herman Otten

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This thesis does not pretend to be an exhaustive study of the entire issue of God’s manifestations and natural theo1ogy. Few Missouri Synod Lutherans have concerned themselves with the problem. Jaroslav Pelikan refers to the “problem of natural theology" in his From Luther to Kierkegaard. He believes that Kant has rendered a great service to Lutheran theology by ridding it of Aristotelianism.
