Representation Of Possessive Fear: Destructive Jealousy In Othello, Karen (Shuyuan) Wen
Representation Of Possessive Fear: Destructive Jealousy In Othello, Karen (Shuyuan) Wen
Western Libraries Undergraduate Research Awards (WLURAs)
The theme of jealousy is intrinsic to the progression of the plot in William Shakespeare’s Othello. My creative project takes an understanding of jealousy from Rebecca Olsen’s definition of jealousy as “the fear of losing possession” (2015). My creative project explores the inner turmoil that jealousy imposes on the character development of Desdemona, Othello, Brabantio, and Roderigo as initiated by Iago through the recurring symbol of green as envy and sickness and the personification of jealousy as a monster. The linked poems are written from different characters' perspectives in Othello. Rob Wilson suggests that Iago, through manipulating jealousy as “mimetic …

In psychiatry residency, we have a didactic within our curriculum that focuses on psychotherapy. This subject culminates in our third year when our program’s psychotherapy supervisor asks each of us to create our own personal theory. It allowed us to explore and apply what we had learned up until this point and formulate our own understanding of why people are the way that they are, how people change, and how to facilitate that growth through our theory. Each of us chose to represent our theory in unique ways, reflective of our personalities. One tech-savvy resident used AI and images. Another …

Journal of Humanistic Mathematics
How did Mathematics arise? Who created it? Why is it subject to Godel’s Incompleteness Theorems? And what does all this have to do with Coleridge’s poem, “Kubla Khan”, and “The Person from Porlock”? Here is a complete mythology of Mathematics set in an epic poetry format, fusing thoughts and verses from Western religions and Eastern mysticism… Those with immense patience and careful reading shall reap the fruit… (best read on a large screen or in printed form)
Love Is No Mean Thing: A Larkin Logarithm, Michael P.H. Stanley Md
Love Is No Mean Thing: A Larkin Logarithm, Michael P.H. Stanley Md
Journal of Humanistic Mathematics
This poem was recited at a marriage recently in Vermont. I met the groom in my freshman year. He was the first college friend I ever made, and he used to burst into the room like Cosmo Kramer and settle down in an easy-chair to think about math (my side of the dorm was quieter than his). I thought that was remarkable and delightful, and so, when the task came to write a matrimonial poem for him, I selected a mathematical conceit. The poem concludes with a mathematical paraphrasing of Philip Larkin's last line from Arundel Tomb.

Thai Americans: A Poem Collection Featuring "Bilingual หมา Standard Poodle" And "Last Name กู Too Long", Simon Boonsripaisal, Ravadee Boonsripaisal
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
This is a co-authored poem collection focusing on Thai American life. In Bilingual หมา Standard Poodle, interactions and observations are made between a Thai American family and their supportive standard poodle named Pumpkin. This poem interjects on the disaggregated Southeast Asian American experience with inclusion of a pet companion. In Last Name กู Too Long, a Thai American graduate student discusses with their mother the challenges of gaining employment. This poem brings attention to hiring bias in the screening and interview process.
The Presence Of Woman In The Poetry Of Almotanabi, Abde Alrazak Ismaiil
The Presence Of Woman In The Poetry Of Almotanabi, Abde Alrazak Ismaiil
Al Jinan الجنان
At all times, the woman has inspired the poets and her image has represented the endless poetic sense of tender and creativity. As all other poets, Almotanabi had honored the beginnings of his poems by mentioning and flattering the woman. He had followed the steps of the other poets whether their poems were erotic or platonic. However, Almotanabi had his own way to love. He had the passion for woman and flattered her, but he was never devoted to her.He had his own big interest and he devoted himself to the Power . Thus, flattering a woman for Almotanabi was …

This research study seeks to explore the manifestations of “rejection and defiance” of the cruelty of death, and its manipulation of the limitations of time or “short distance of human life,” through “the problem of defeat and compliance “ in its contrast with rebellion. The aim of this study is to achieve not only rational human reconciliation with “white hair” and “the wisdom of whiting,” but also the attainment of the effectiveness of the semantic poetry based on a collection titled “The Alphabet of Wrinkles” by the poet Kamel Farhan Saleh’s.
This study attempts to provide answers to the fundamental …

The Qualitative Report
This article stems from a workshop presented at the 15th TQR conference on poetry in teaching and learning qualitative research. Over the last few decades, scholars have argued for the use of poetry and other arts-based techniques in qualitative research. Most of the research, however, focuses on using poetry for data analysis and representation. In this article, we shift the conversation to the use of poetry for teaching and learning qualitative research. Starting with a poem in three voices of educator, student, and researcher, we provide an overview of poetry use in qualitative inquiry. We then offer brief overviews of …

My Mind Is A Forest: An Autistic Wandering Through The Language Of Silence And The Poems Of Mary Oliver, Torri Blue
My Mind Is A Forest: An Autistic Wandering Through The Language Of Silence And The Poems Of Mary Oliver, Torri Blue
Ought: The Journal of Autistic Culture
The autistic experience has been widely medicalized, pathologized, mischaracterized, and misunderstood. Through this series of essays, I attempt to paint an alternative picture of (an) autistic life—one not defined by deficits, but (at the risk of sounding cliché) differences—by re-storying autism through an Autistic Poetic.
Autistic Poetics, or the poetry of autistic existence, offers to our imagination a new way of relating to the world—alternative pictures of what it means to be human and all the possibilities therein. Autists, as human beings who often express being more at home with the earth-others and more-than-human world, can offer our writings as …
Beauty In The Gothic: Forms Of Autistic Aesthetics, Elinor Rowlands
Beauty In The Gothic: Forms Of Autistic Aesthetics, Elinor Rowlands
Ought: The Journal of Autistic Culture
This article will explore how Divergent forms of autistic communication and expression, within an artistic context, convey an aesthetic that awakens otherworldly realms existing between the physical world and portals of invention. These otherworldly creations are often made manifest through modes of stimming.
For autistic artists who use stimming (repetitive motions and actions) in their artwork and texts, intuition plays a key role, and many, particularly female and non-binary, recognize the role Gothic also plays in their work.
This article will use Serres philosophy on intuition and definitions of the Gothic to show how autistic artists may use both in …
