A Focus On Singapore's 21st-Century Landscape, Darren Soh

Singapore has one of the world’s most rapidly changing urban landscapes, so it is impossible to conserve every single building. However, we can document these structures and spaces before the wrecking ball hits. That is what I aim to do through architectural photography.

There are many photographers in the world but not everyone sees the world through the same lens. To capture an impactful image, we don’t necessarily have to use a fancy camera—sometimes, the best machine is the one we have at the moment. Often, that is our smartphone.

This county-level city is known not only for its picturesque beauty, but also for being the site of seaweed houses— traditional homes built from natural seaweed and stones. Inhabited mainly by local fishermen, these structures are a reflection of northern Chinese marine culture and fishery customs.
