The Central Washington University Horn Ensemble received an invitation, based on proposal acceptance, to perform at the 2019 Northwest Horn Symposium, held March 29-31, at the University of Montana in Missoula. This symposium, hosted annually by the Northwest Horn Society, a regional professional organization that promotes the (French) horn in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Western Canada, attracted over 120 professional players, university and school teachers, students and amateurs of all ages from throughout the region. Art is such a huge and impactful part of society, it sparks creativity, joy, and wonder into the lives of everyone. Art is categorized into different groups: Performing, Visual, Music and writing. What if we combined these four to create a beautiful message and work of art? The four genres of art were brought together, to produce one cohesive work of art. Through setting up a music festival at Central Washington University I observed a need for independent music in Ellensburg, closer gender parity in regard to event line-ups, and how in-depth research in policy, budgets, networking, and inclusion would make this possible. In this presentation I will be describing my vision, explaining logistics, and reflecting on lessons learned and where to go in the future.
