Rasch Validation Analysis Of The Reduced Integrated Music Interest Survey For Project-Based Learning Courses, Anthony Setari, John Egger, Kelly Bradley
John Okley Egger
The purpose of this study is to further examine the validity of the Integrated Music Interest Survey (IMIS). The IMIS was distributed to a group of pre-service elementary school teachers for the purposes of evaluating the teachers in a project-based learning course. Previous analysis conducted by Setari, Egger, and Bradley (2015), reduced the survey using a factor reduction strategy; however, issues were found to still exist with redundancy of item difficulties. In this study, a partial-credit Rasch model analysis was conducted on the reduced IMIS with the redundant items identified in Setari et al. (2015) removed. Results of this analysis …
Development Of A Project-Based Learning Course Evaluation Tool Using Item Response Theory, Anthony Setari, John Egger, Kelly Bradley
Development Of A Project-Based Learning Course Evaluation Tool Using Item Response Theory, Anthony Setari, John Egger, Kelly Bradley
John Okley Egger
The purpose of this study was to refine the IMIS into a unidimensional scale for usage in the evaluation of project-based learning (PBL) higher education courses. Data was collected from pre-service teachers participating in a PBL course at a large university. An initial exploratory factor analysis was conducted to reduce the survey into a unidimensional model, and then an Item Response Theory graded response analysis was conducted on the reduced model. Results of the analysis show that the majority of items were easy to respond to, however, the reduced IMIS had high reliability. Future research should add higher difficulty questions.

The Effects Of A Cooperative Learning Environment On Preservice Elementary Teachers’ Application Of Music Into Core Academic Subjects, John O. Egger
John Okley Egger
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cooperative learning on preservice elementary teachers’ application of music into academic subject lessons. Participants (N = 59) were preservice elementary teachers enrolled in an 8-week music method course who were assigned to a cooperative learning or individualistic learning environment. During the first 6 weeks of the study, participants worked on the Music Integration Project. At the conclusion of the 6-week period, participants submitted their projects and individually taught an integrated music lesson. Results from the music integration project and individual microteaching showed cooperative learning participants scoring statistically significantly higher …

The Effect Of Behavioral Contracting On Preservice Elementary Teachers’ Performance Achievement On The Soprano Recorder, John Okley Egger, D. Gregory Springer, Lori F. Gooding
John Okley Egger
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of behavioral contracting on preservice elementary teachers’ performance achievement on the soprano recorder. Participants were elementary and special education majors (N = 60) enrolled in an undergraduate elementary music methods course. The study used a withdrawal design (ABA) composed of 2-week baseline–contract–baseline phases. Participants performed an assigned excerpt on the soprano recorder at the conclusion of each phase, and the tempo and number of errors performed were scored as data points for each participant. Results showed that participants performed with significantly higher tempos and significantly fewer errors during the …
The Effects Of A Cooperative Learning Environment On Preservice Elementary Teachers' Interest In And The Application Of Music Into Core Academic Subjects, John Egger
John Okley Egger
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cooperative learning on preservice elementary teachers’ interest in, and the application of music into, core academic subject lesson plans. Participants (N = 59) were preservice elementary teachers enrolled in four class sections of a music method course designed for elementary education majors at a large southern university. All members participating in the study were placed by section for eight weeks in one of two groups-an individualistic learning group or cooperative learning group.
During the first 6 weeks of the study, participants worked on the Music Integration Project. …

The purpose of this study was to analyze the gender and instrumentation stratification of performing members in the Lesbian and Gay Band Association. More specifically, the aim of this study was to determine if gender stratification of instruments is different from previous research when applied to the LGBTQ population. While studies have examined instrument-gender stratification as reflected in the rosters of performing ensembles, this study investigates how instrument-gender stereotyping manifest in Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questioning (LGBTQ) community based ensembles. Participants (N = 458) were instrumentalist from 39 community ensembles located in from the United States (93%), Australia (4%), Canada, …
