The purpose of this research was to design and implement a Series of Latin Shows to be featured at the Satine Restaurant located in The Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.

Three shows were created: "Electro Tango," "Bossa Nova Jazz," and "Piel Canela Night" to help generate interest for not only the Satine Restaurant but also for the surrounding area. The artistic concept included big bands, costumes, dancers and a DJ.

A production book was created and included the most important aspects of the individual shows such as budgets, costumes, and ground plans, to assure the success of each event. Careful …

A Comparison Of The Kodaly Method And The Traditional Method To Determine Pitch Accuracy In Grade 6 Choral Sight-Singing, Merissa Amkraut

The purpose of this study was to determine which of the two methods is more appropriate to teach pitch discrimination to Grade 6 choral students to improve sight-singing note accuracy. This study consisted of three phases: pre-testing, instruction and post-testing. During the four week study, the experimental group received training using the Kodaly method while the control group received training using the traditional method. The pre and post tests were evaluated by three trained musicians. The analysis of the data utilized an independent t-test and a paired t-test with the methods of teaching (experimental and control) as a factor. Quantitative …

Instrument Choice Of Fifth Grade Boys And Girls Aural And Visual Preference Based On Presentation Mode, Chadwick T. Childers

The general purpose of this research was to determine if a lesson including gender will influence the instrument selection process of fifth grade children. Subjects were two homogeneous groups of fifth grade students from Miami, Florida. Each group received a lesson concerning five acoustic musical instruments: the clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet, and drums with photos and music excerpts.

The control group did not receive a gender lecture nor did the photographs depict anyone playing the instrument. Overwhelmingly, drums were the instrument of choice in both groups. As a result a second experiment was designed to replicate experiment 1, but drums …

A Descriptive Study Of The Ratio Of Approval To Disapproval Demonstrated By Music Teachers And Classroom Teachers In First, Second, And Third Grades, Manuel Emilio Brenes

The purpose of this study was to determine the approval to disapproval ratios of feedback given by music and classroom teachers to first, second and third grades. Eight teachers from a South Florida Elementary School were selected for this study.

Twelve 20-minute videos were taken for further examination. Analyses of data using percentage formulas were used to determine the ratio of each of the teacher reinforcement. Classroom teachers gave 2.3% social approval feedback, 59% academic approval feedback, 22% social disapproval feedback, 16.5% academic disapproval feedback, and 0% errors. Music teachers gave .7% social approval feedback, 67% academic approval feedback, 22% …

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate Nico Assumpção. He has not received the interest and recognition of the American jazz audience, despite having recorded and performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world.

Four works were transcribed and analyzed in detail with respect to the following issues and elements: rhythmic conception, bass techniques and melodic and harmonic characteristics. Observations were made and trends examined in his music as well as his improvisational style, which illustrates his stylistic significance.

Results show that Nico Assumpção is indeed representative of the Jazz Fusion and Latin Jazz styles, despite …
