On the first page of the diary, [John Rosendahl] called himself the "Fritz of the Banjo," though he was also "a red hot violinist... and famous comedian." He must have had extensive training and experience in music, since there are many short music manuscripts written out in pen and he mentions writing musical arrangements. For four weeks, he accompanied the Finnish-American performer Wäinö Ollila on the Vaudeville circuit. He met and teamed up with an accordionist named Mikkilä to play dozens of engagements in the summer of 1926. Several newspaper ads pasted into the diary read, "Mikkilä and Rosendahl ... …

An incomplete draft of a book intended to serve as a guide and reference for librarians who are responsible for implementing digital audio services in their libraries. The book is divided into two parts. Part 1, "Digital Audio Technology," covers the fundamentals of recorded sound and digital audio, including a description of digital audio formats, how digital audio is delivered to the listener, and how digital audio is created. Part 2, "Digital Audio in the Library," covers digitizing local collections, providing streaming audio reserves, and using digital audio to preserve analog recordings.

A Demographic Study Of Music Education Professors In The United States (Poster Session), Wesley D. Brewer, David A. Rickels

The purpose of this study was to construct a demographic and workload profile of the typical music education faculty member in the United States. Participants were selected from a random sample of NASM-accredited institutions offering music education degree programs. Through an online survey, participants responded to questions regarding higher education work history and demographics, including: (a) degrees held; (b) sex; (c) K-12 teaching experience; and (d) age. Certain characteristics of the profile varied according to the type of institution at which the respondent worked. A Multivariate Analysis Of Nonperformance Variables As Predictors Of Marching Band Contest Results (Dissertation), David A. Rickels

The purpose of this study was to examine a set of nonperformance variables pertaining to high school marching bands, and the relationships between these variables and the scoring results of marching band contests in the United States. The term "nonperformance variable" refers to a characteristic of a competing marching band or its director that was not overtly evaluated by performance criteria at a contest. The need for this study results from the widespread and historically established nature of band competitions, and evidence in prior research demonstrating pressure to compete.
