The program will juxtapose two monumental 19th century works. Frederic Chopin wrote 24 “Preludes,” each exquisitely crafted and profoundly expressive. Modeste Mussorgsky created “Pictures at an Exhibition,” transforming artworks into musical imagery that portrays an imaginary tour of an art collection. The two composers hail from divergent nationalities; their unique backgrounds and differing aesthetics yield a stark contrast between the two major works.

Parkinson will share information and insights about the origins of each piece. Works of art will be projected as a representation of the moods depicted in each piece. The program will blend narration, visual images and live …
