8 Passions Needed For Church Planting And Church Renewal Impressions From A Church Planting Tour In Australia, Edgar Machel

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

In April 2002 I had the opportunity to be part of a church planting tour in Australia. How are young churches in Australia able to reach secular and a-religious people? How are they different from traditional churches? How much is transferable and how much is culture bound? Those questions accompanied us while we were planning our excursion. The churches we attended and/or studied were Independent, Charismatic, Baptist and Seventh-day Adventist.

What Is Wrong With The Homogeneous Unit Principle?: The Hup In The 21st Century Church, Skip Bell

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

If you find the homogeneous unit principle to be controversial, credit Donald McGavran, who launched the church growth movement with his important work, Understanding Church Growth, first published in 1970. McGavran describes this principle: “Men like to become Christians without crossing racial, linguistic, or class barriers.” What exactly did McGavran and other key church growth researchers mean by this principle?

Big Picture Curricula For Multiethnic Ministry, Tom A. Steffen

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

This article will propose a storied, big-picture approach to multiethnic ministry. It will advocate curriculum that builds a cathedral rather than isolated rooms. When The Church Was A Family: Revisioning Christian Community In Light Of Ancient Social Values, Joe Hellerman Oct 2003

When The Church Was A Family: Revisioning Christian Community In Light Of Ancient Social Values, Joe Hellerman

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

Some might attribute the relational crises characterizing our churches solely to individual sin and selfishness. Sin and selfishness, however, have been around since Adam. Why the radical increase in relational breakdown in our society and in our churches today? Something bigger is in the works, and it has to do with the unique orientation of modern Western culture, especially contemporary American society. Ours is a culture which insists to its own destruction that the dreams, goals, and personal fulfillment of the individual deserve a higher priority than the well-being of any group (natural family or church body) or relationship (friendship …

Worldview As A Key To Understanding Spiritual Warfare With The Emphasis On Sanctification And Evangelism, Albert Kwamena Essandoh May 2003

Worldview As A Key To Understanding Spiritual Warfare With The Emphasis On Sanctification And Evangelism, Albert Kwamena Essandoh

College of Theology and Ministry Dissertations, Projects, & Theses

An examination of current literary works on spiritual warfare within this decade shows that there has been a struggle in understanding the issues that evolve under this subject. Missiologists have presented reports that baffle western theologians; however. these phenomena are not new to the non-westem reader, and they persist. Most western theologians who have not encountered these phenomena discount these experiences, presenting arguments from a sanctification point of view.

Renowned contemporary scholars whose perspectives on worldviews, sanctification, and evangelism contribute to this research include Peter Wagner, Clinton Arnold, Derek Tidball, Howard Ervin, James Sire, John Stott, Andrew W. Hoffecker, Russell …

Final Frontier: The Methodist Church Involvement With The Recolonization Of Blacks To Liberia, Sharletta Michelle Green

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Missionary work over the course of one hundred years has changed the face of Liberia as a country. The work has affected the culture, economic structure, ethnic relationships within the country and surrounding areas and the political climate. The missionary movement into Africa did not start until the early eighteen hundreds.

In my thesis, I will focus on the ways the major stakeholders socially constructed the issues involved. I will focus on the ways in which the ideologies of racism in this period reflected American perceptions of the “dark continent.” This analysis will include the social constructions of church leaders, …
