Después del crimen cometido donde una familia entera ha sido masacrada, el autor decide entrevistar al criminal Ian Joseph quien ha sido recluido en un instituto psiquiátrico. La novela describe el recuento del paciente y el descenso a su propia locura, al tiempo que el autor va agregando aclaraciones a pie de nota. The Smuggler Journals: Transgressing And Policing The Border In The Rio Grande Valley, Lupe Alberto Flores

This thesis summarizes recent human smuggling scholarship and provides ethnographic insights into migrant smuggling in a border zone that is my home. Through exploring my own experiences and observations of smuggling and militarized border policing, and those of other interlocutors in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, I advance nuanced understandings of the symbiotic processes of irregular migration and of the people who brokerage a great deal of these journeys across militarized borders. I analyze fieldnotes that highlight the quotidian realms in which gender and power play out when irregular migration takes place and argue that acts of border …

With His Guitar In His Hand: Representations Of U.S. - Mexico Border Masculinity In Robert Rodriguez's “El Mariachi”, Marlene Galvan

This thesis closely examines Robert Rodriguez’s film El Mariachi and its portrayal of border masculinity - the masculine identity which exists on the physical space between the U.S. and Mexico, but also the masculinity created by the melding of cultures. The film ignores this complexity and instead dichotomizes maleness along the traditionally Western lines of hard versus soft masculinity. Further, the film glorifies violence, the exploitation of female bodies, shows women as only useful agents of man, punishes transgressive women, and depicts men as only possessing or aspiring to possess individualistic, economic, phallocentric, and patriarchal power which reinforces a variation …

En el siguiente estudio, hago uso de dos corpus para llevar a cabo un análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de los usos de verdad y sus variantes reducidas verdad y veda, que difieren en cuanto a su función y carga semántica de su uso canónico como sustantivo, en cuyo caso funciona como sujeto y objeto de la frase. Demuestro que los hablantes en Lopezville y San Isidro Texas hacen uso de verdad como marcador que incrementa la cohesión discursiva y que en esta variedad del español fronterizo verdad ha desarrollado maneras innovadoras de codificar el significado modal. Federico García Lorca is considered as one of Spain's most important twentieth century poets. He was born near Granada to a well off landowner who loved the country and Gypsy cante jondo music. Growing up in this environment nurtured Federico's desire to appreciate his surroundings, music and the Gypsy culture. He took piano and flamenco guitar lessons. That is why many of his works are saturated with nuances and direct references to both nature and music. In his Poema del Cante Jondo one travels across Andalusia and penetrates into its folklore.
