Doctor Vignes, of New Orleans, became the fifty-sixth president of the Association at the 1918 meeting in Chicago. The Transactions for that year listed more than 4,000 dental officers on active duty in the armed forces. Doctor Vignes organized the Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans in 1914 and served as dean and professor of clinical dentistry for twenty-three years. Earlier, he had helped to organize the New Orleans College of Dentistry, which became the Dental School of Tulane University.
