This memorial volume compiles materials about Rostislav Dаnov (1941—1993) of St. Petersburg (Russia), a naturalist, artist, and snake-hunter, who worked for many years in Turkmenistan (West Kopetgagh Mts). The book celebrates Dаnov’s 80th birthday. It includes previously unpublished artwork and scientific illustrations by Dаnov as well as his texts, research papers, various memoirs, biographic information, and unique photographs. The book is intended for everyone who is interested in history of science and conservation in Central Asia and the USSR.

When we arrived in Huntington, the physician shortage was so extreme that we, who had great medical connections, found it difficult to locate physicians who accepted new patients. We invited the first class of medical students, the Class of 1981, who began medical school in January 1978, their spouses, and all faculty and spouses to our home for an evening of fellowship and food (Appendix 1: The First Graduating Class, the Class of 1981). This book provides a brief history of the early computing technology at Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va., in the forty years: 1959-1999. This was before the move to Intel and Windows based servers. After installation of an IBM Accounting Machine in 1959, which arguably does not fit the modern definition of a computer, the first true computer arrived in 1963 and was installed in a room below the Registrar’s office. For the next twenty years several departments ordered their own midrange standalone systems to fit their individual departmental requirements. The bulk of the collection consists of Mr. Marks' genealogical research on his family, including publications, family trees, forms, and other research tools. Professional papers include a Turkish-American Association exhibit of stamps between 1961-1965, as well as clippings, white papers, pamphlets, and booklets related to foreign policy and intelligence issues primarily about the U.S.S.R., but also including major powers in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

This collection includes physician’s notebooks, photographs, and newspaper clippings related to the Hallanan family. The bulk of the collection is four volumes related to Thomas B. Hallanan’s practice as a physician, including a birth records book for the years 1920 and 1921 for births near Barboursville and McComas and three physician’s notebooks tracking accounts with patients and notes about visits. The four photographs in the collection are unidentified. Newspaper clippings relate to the social and political lives of Walter S. Hallanan, Imogene Hallanan, Thomas Hallanan, and Betty Hallanan.

He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois, in 1929 and began practicing internal medicine in Charleston, West Virginia, on April 1, 1932. Dr. Tuckwiller discusses making house calls in Kanawha County, West Virginia, and focuses on the most common illnesses he treated and the medicines and procedures he used. Barton, the self-made physician of Syracuse, Ohio, including a history of the Fourth Regt. West Va. Vol. Inf’y, with an account of Col. Lightburn’s Retreat” published by Charleston, West Virginia Printing Company in 1890. The document does not cover Barton’s personal life, and only discusses his time as a doctor for his regiment in the Civil War.
