Prayer Fellowship In The First Half Of Synod’S History, Robert M. Hess May 1985

Prayer Fellowship In The First Half Of Synod’S History, Robert M. Hess

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The title of an article which appeared in the very first issue of the Ohio Synod's Columbus Theological Magazine may well describe the question of Missouri Synod fellowship. It has been "The Burning Question" since its very inception and even before its organization as a synod. The present study on fellowship is not the first attempt to deal with the question. It certainly won't be the last. This thesis is an attempt to look at fellowship in the Missouri Synod historically and theologically, assemble material which may be helpful to others who research the subject, and draw some conclusions from …

A Comparison Of The Ecclesiology Of Representatives Of The Lutheran And Helvetic Reformers, Chun Kwan Lee Jan 1985

A Comparison Of The Ecclesiology Of Representatives Of The Lutheran And Helvetic Reformers, Chun Kwan Lee

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

There are two major areas that need to be investigated. The first concerns the ecclesiology of the four reformers selected for this study. It must be noted that the Reformation was not the work of isolated individuals, but a movement caused by the joint efforts of various persons and schools of thought. A comparison among these reformers is therefore very much needed in order to gain a better picture of the era. The following study will therefore analyse the various aspects of the ecclesiology of these four reformers and comparisons will be made accordingly.

Secondly, how the reformers' convictions of …

Service-learning in the educational system of the Seventh-day Adventist church in the United States, as is true in public education, generally has been overshadowed by a subject-matter orientation. It was the purpose of this study to determine the level of practice of service to others in the secondary schools of the Adventist church in the United States, to research the principles necessary to write a philosophy of service, and to specify the organizational components required for service projects.

Method. Two types of closely related research were used in this study : descriptive analysis and descriptive developmental. A descriptive analysis …

The Evolution Of Modern Catholic Social Teaching On Labour And Social Justice, Hugh J. Campbell

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

The task of this thesis is to show that from the nineteenth century to the present Catholic Scoial Teaching recognized increasingly the need for social justice in the areas of labour and society. In order to do this, I propose to research carefully the major official Church documents on Catholic social teaching on human labour from Pople Leo XIII’s Enevelical, Rerum Novarum (The Condition of Labour), 1891, up to Pope John II’s Enevelical Laborem Exercens (On Human Work), 1981. I will also attempt to define what Catholic Social Teaching is and explain what are the principles which make up the …

The Institution Of Betrothal In The Early Rabbinical Literature, Emma Mclennan

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

This study is a detailed examination of the institution of betrothal in the early rabbinical literature. The primary sources for the study include the Mishnah, the Tosefta and the Babylonian Talmud. Part One of the thesis examines the procedural elements of betrothal: how a valid betrothal is contracted; the relative powers in the process of the three primary participants (the woman, her father and the man doing the betrothing); the significance of the betrothal: invalidating and terminating the betrothal. Part Two examines the rights and obligations which are associated with the betrothal period, especially in regard to the woman. The …
