This creative-nonfiction project encapsulates a Japanese family diaspora to America beginning in the late 1880s. Through short stories, poems, and monologues, the author expresses familial struggles such as living in a foreign land and being Japanese in White America. The author reflects on her grandparents' time in the Japanese internment camps where they faced hardship and hegemonic oppression as well as her father's experience of growing up Japanese-American in Los Angeles. The stories weave together history, hardship, and race to create a unique diaspora story.

The purpose of this capstone is to describe how a Hybrid Holistic Thinking Approach has helped the author analyze the Seabrook Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) review its perceived relevance as a national civil rights organization, address its systemic challenges, and reset the organization.
A quantitative, quasi-experimental research design was implemented to address organization improvement. The study targeted the Seabrook JACL, a non-profit, civil rights organization to review its current state and its challenges and synthesize a compelling argument for organizational change. With the issue of Executive Order 9066 by Franklin D. Roosevelt, nearly 110,000 Japanese Americans were sent to Internment camps. This paper identifies the events that led up to Japanese Americans being identified as threats to national security, describes life in the camps, and briefly discusses their efforts to return to society at the end of the war.

After the start of World War I in 1914, the British government began internment of enemy alien men, disrupting the large German population settled in the country. This move seemed to be in complete contrast in comparison to the lax immigration laws during the long nineteenth century, when Great Britain had one of the most liberal immigration laws of any country in Europe. The British public was proud of this tradition and Britain’s image as an open haven for refugees and individuals seeking a better life.
