Les Origines Du Socialisme Parlementaire En Australie, 1850-1920, Terry Irving
Les Origines Du Socialisme Parlementaire En Australie, 1850-1920, Terry Irving
Terence H Irving, Dr (Terry)
An English-language version of this article appears in 'LABOUR HISTORY - A JOURNAL OF LABOUR AND SOCIAL HISTORY', 67 (November 1994), 97-109. It describes the mid-19th century origins of the working class, the impact of the early introduction of parliamentary politics, the rise of industrial unionism and the formation of the Labor parties.
Challenges To Labour History, Terry Irving
Challenges To Labour History, Terry Irving
Terence H Irving, Dr (Terry)
The decline of the labour movement in the 1980s and 1990s robbed labour history of its elan as 'history with a social purpose', and the rise of postmodernism devalued the attempt by labour historians to grasp social reality as a whole. Today there is a commonly expressed feeling that labour history is experiencing a crisis. The first three essays in this volume are historiographical; then four essays engage with the challenges posed by post-modernism and cultural theory; and finally four essays present examples of the ways in which theoretical reappraisals can shape the writing of labour history.

The Colonelette
On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. Their newsletter, “The Colonelette,” was started in June 1964. Also included …

Dreyfus: How He Was Framed, Donald E. Wilkes Jr.
Dreyfus: How He Was Framed, Donald E. Wilkes Jr.
Popular Media
When, 12 tumultuous years after it began, the Dreyfus case officially came to an end, one journalist was inspired with awe: "Historical records, criminal annals, romance and the drama, furnish no stranger tale of human life and destiny, than that which has reached its culmination in the final and complete exoneration of Dreyfus."

Orlando Gets Hockey But Not Nhl Hockey, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
When the announcement came a little over a week ago The Orlando Sentinel fell over itself like the lapdog it has become for the Orlando Magic and the DeVoss family. It was of course the major news that Orlando was about to get a hockey team in the International Hockey League, and the city was about to facilitate the process with another sweetheart contract with the family DeVoss for use of the O-Arena.
