Contains correspondence about the locomotive, its history and its transfer from place to place. Many letters are to and from W.J. Sweetser, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Maine, and H.D. Watson, head of the mechanical engineering department. Other letters are from Louis Ibbotson, librarian at the university, John R. Lyman, chair of the mechanical engineering department in the 1970s, and university presidents Arthur Hauck and Howard Neville. The collection also contains information about the history of the locomotive, newspaper and journal articles, and photographs.

This small collection contains William Shipman's files from his participation on various committees and studies for hydroelectric power projects in Maine.

The files are arranged alphabetically by subject using headings assigned by Professor Shipman. The material from his work as a member of the Citizens' Dickey-Lincoln Project Impact Review Committee consists of records of committee meetings, correspondence, and reports which reflect the work of the committee. Some of the correspondence also reflects Professor Shipman's ambivalence toward this work and the feeling of futility caused by a lack of information about various alternatives to the Dickey-Lincoln project.

The collection contains two daybooks maintained between 1764 and 1839 by Daniel Bucknam and his sons, Shepherd and Calvin Bucknam, of Minot, Maine. The books contain itemized accounts of goods and services sold by the Bucknams and reflect the use of trade and barter in their lives.

The first volume was used mostly by Daniel Bucknam, although the inclusion of later dates probably indicates that it was used by Daniel's sons as well. The second volume has the name Calvin Bucknam written on the inside cover and contains some biographical information about Calvin and his family.

The records of 40 small electric power companies later acquired by Central Maine Power Company make up this collection.

Each company forms its own record group within the collection, and companies are listed in the order in which they were acquired by CMP. Records of only a few companies date after their acquisition by Central Maine Power. The earliest acquisition, of the Sebasticook Water Power Company, took place in 1911, the latest, of the Casco Bay Light and Power Company, took place in 1965.

Most companies have only a few volumes of records, reflecting their short existence before being acquired …

The collection contains personal papers of Clarence C. Stetson. No papers from his career in government service are found in the collection.

The file of correspondence, 1919-1921, contains incoming and outgoing letters about Stetson's investments and other financial matters. The business correspondence folders deal primarily with management of his timberland holdings and tax, policy, and investment issues surrounding them. Correspondents include Merrill Griswold, Isaiah K. Stetson, and Charles Stetson, an attorney in Boston. The files of receipts, 1920-1921, are all for personal expenses and purchases, such as hotels, automobiles and clothing.

The collection consists of four unidentified volumes. By their dates, it is assumed that they mostly concern the firm of E. Plummer and Sons, incorporated in 1901.

The daybook, 1898-1904, gives an account of amounts of corn, meal, flour, oats, bran, etc., ground for various customers. The cashbook, sales book and time book concern the sawmill and lumberyard. The sales book lists shingles, clapboards, laths and lumber as products, and the weekly time book gives employee names, time worked and rates of pay.

The C.A. Donnell Company, Portland, Maine, was a brass manufacturer founded ca. 1837 by Charles A. Donnell and catering to the shipping trade. In late 1886 the company became Knight Bros., brass founders, plumbers and coppersmiths, owned by Algernon and William Knight of Falmouth, Maine.

Collection contains incoming and outgoing correspondence, 1861-1896, and receipts for company purchases, 1846-1896.

The Coe family papers consist primarily of business records of the brothers Eben S. Coe and Thomas Upham Coe, with a few papers of Thomas's wife, Sada L. Coe. The materials reflect the involvement of the Coes in land acquisition and management and the lumber industry in the northern part of Maine, as well as Eben Coe's partnership in the S.R. Bearce and R.C. Pingree companies in Lewiston, Maine. Much information is also included about the administration of the very sizeable estate left by Thomas Upham Coe at his death in 1920.

The papers of O.H. Wakefield consist mainly of financial records, especially daybooks, 1884-1917, of activities in the general store and the lumber business. Ledgers, 1878-1890; a lumber book, 1879-1899, of lumber cut and sawed; and a memo book of spool bar accounts reflect Wakefield's primary occupation.

The collection contains financial records of a boat shop and dock owned by Herbert E. Tracy in Winter Harbor, Maine. The collection contains five volumes of records. Tracy records expenses for services he provided to boats in his yard, including repairs, refittings, berth rentals, towing charges, wharf accounts, and sales of all kinds of nautical supplies. One of the volumes, listed as a memo book, contains town financial records for Winter Harbor for 1896, as well as a list of names and addresses of yacht and ship owners who used Tracy's services.

The collection contains three volumes of guest registers, 1897-1904, for the hotel. Volumes two and three have printed blotter sheets advertising various businesses in Maine. They also contain printed guides listing hotels for each state, their rates, etc. Book plates in the registers identify them as belonging to the library of Inez and Webb Noyes, Pinawa II, Onawa, Maine. Pinawa II was the Noyes family camp built in 1937 to replace Pinawa I, built in 1901 or 1902. This camp had been given to Webb and Inez Noyes as a wedding gift in 1927 and burned in the 1930's.

The collection contains administrative files, architectural and mechanical drawings, patent agreements and trademark registration documents, company publications, paper samples, etc. Also included is the company's collection of approximately 3000 plans and drawings of its property, buildings and machinery for its sites in Lincoln, Orono and Brewer. Records of the Madagascal Dam Company, a subsidiary of the Eastern Corporation chartered in 1871 to maintain dams and control water flow on Madagascal Stream in an area adjoining some Eastern Company property, are also contained in the collection.

This small collection contains primarily order forms on letterhead of Booth Brothers and Hurricane Isle Granite Company. The forms are undated and do not identify the customer ordering the granite. They are arranged in numerical order by order number and seem to be from three different orders. Within each order number, the forms are arranged by section, course and number. Information on each form includes order number, cutter's name, hours spent in cutting, cost of the work, dimensions of the block, and a design drawing of each block.

The collection contains three volumes of financial information about the operation of the Whitneyville Agency.

The journal, 1853-1860, is a daybook recording freight charges primarily for lumber and laths. Individuals and companies mentioned frequently include S.W. Pope and Co., William. E. Pennell, John F. Harmon, Humphrey Desmond, and James Miller.

The journal, 1857-1868, records financial information about stumpage, labor, wood sold, and general bills paid by the Whitneyville Agency.

The ledger, 1857-1885, lists accounts held by various people and companies, with expenditures and credits for lumber, groceries, equipment, labor, etc.
