Taylor is a very popular name in American history. Tho original immigrant of the family followed in this story was John Taylor who came to the Virginia shore from England in 1650 with his two brothers, Arggle and William. He was about twenty three when he embarked from the Amsterdam and docked in Fleet 's Bay. Soon this immigrant settled in Wicomcio Parish in Northumberland County. His wife, the former Alice Gaskins, and he brought up a family of three sons and several daughters. Early in 1702, John died at the age of seventy-five.

The period from 1824 to 1865 was a most critical one in the history of the United States. It was during those years that issues of great magnitude arose. After a period of discussion, views crystallized and finally became fundamental beliefs in the minds of the people of both the North and tho South.
