Barre Toelken, Director of the Folklore and Ethnic Studies Program at the University of Oregon, will deliver the Marshall Dodge Memorial Folklore Lecture Thursday, February 21, at 7:30 p.m. in 100 Nutting Hall on the University of Maine (Orono) campus. His topic will be "You've Got to Watch His Lips: Image and Meaning in American Indian Humor."

Since 1983-84 when Peter Gavett took over as women's basketball coach, the team has undergone many new changes. With the formation of the new Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Seaboard Conference, Maine will be competing against Boston University, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, the University of Vermont, Hartford and Brooklyn College on a regular basis for a league championship. Two to four more teams may be added in the next year to give Maine a highly competitive Division I conference. With the addition of Army, Maryland and Bucknell to the dual meet schedule, the Maine men's swimming and diving team faces its most challenging season ever. A solid nucleus returns from last year’s squad that finished fourth in the Eastern Swimming and Diving Association championships. The first woman from UMO's Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps to have been offered a pilot's school position has decided she will attend the school after she graduates from UMO in 1986. Elizabeth "Libby" Bizier, a junior in both AFROTC and her major, international affairs, will be attending Undergraduate Pilot Training upon graduation and commissioning as an officer in the Air Force.

The article discusses how, in 1883, the growing interstate railroad system decided the standardize time in locations throughout the United States. The City of Bangor Maine protested the change from the local time system in use prior to this time.
