Heilbronn Im Jahr 1945: Warum Hier, Alexander Keuerleber Apr 2023

Heilbronn Im Jahr 1945: Warum Hier, Alexander Keuerleber

Student Research Submissions

Punk rock developed in the 1970s and local scenes developed throughout Europe and the United States. East Germany was no exception. Despite — and because of — the brutal state-sponsored violence against and repression of anyone who did not conform to the government’s ideals, punk flourished in the Deutsche Demokratische Republik. Although the initial exposure to punk came via English punk bands on West German radio, the Eastern punks had little interest in the West and were largely anti-capitalist. Instead, they focused their attention on their own country and on the vast social reform needed there. The punks channeled their …

During the Renaissance and Baroque periods, art was primarily commissioned by wealthy patrons for the sake of personal or religious use. Eventually, the creation of the genre portrait came about, and art was beginning to serve purposes other than to satisfy the wealthy patron and the church. As art became more recreational and personal to the common person, women began to train in the arts, and were even able to succeed with their own artistic careers in some cases. This paper covers three women artists from the area of Flanders and Germany, and explores the artistic education they received and …

Islamophobie Im Modernen Deutschland, Logan Burum

Student Research Submissions

For a country terrified of repeating its Nazi past, Islamophobic sentiment and policies are becoming increasingly more popular in modern Germany. This paper explores the some of the historical and cultural underpinnings as well as provides some sociological theories to try and understand just why this type of ideology is festering amongst the German public. Discriminatory practices are veiled under the guise of “living together” and alt-right extremist parties such as the Alternative für Deutschland play to the insecurities of the majority and further support these injustices. As the Muslim minority’s legal rights become increasingly compromised, and human rights violations …

In this thesis I am presenting the topic "The German's longing for Italy" or "Germans' Italy-Nostalgia". This paper covers the development of Germans' longing for Italian culture, art, food, fashion, music, landscapes, beaches and the Country's weather. It presents the historical content of how far in history Germans traveled to the Country of their ideals, inspiration and education. This paper contains facts about similarities between both countries, as well as their contrarieties. I am presenting the evidence of development of German's longing, starting at Dürers era in 1494, Winckelmann in 1758, and Goethe in 1786. I am expanding my research …
