Gretchen D Batcheller
Oil on canvas, 60x72 inches Artist's Statement: I am a woman, a spouse, a friend, a visual artist, a scholar, and a teacher created in the image of the triune God. I am forgiven and have a lifelong and prayerful relationship with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. I am a fallible, broken, redeemed child of God. I hold that human relationships are bound together by the Holy Spirit, through risk-taking in conversation and in endeavor. Faith is the foundation of who I am, and thereby, what I do. I hold that the visual arts tap into …

Theses and Dissertations
It is a gestural sensibility forever suspended in the material as it cools. With each movement to and fro, I become fully immersed and given over to the activity of glassworking, where the simplest impressions whisper of fantastic melodies. I remain open to it: conducting a collision: a symphony of riffs, vamps and arpeggios. Constructing the chorus in disjunctive phases as if it forms out of its own directive. The polyphonic rhythm of decisions converge into a new composition, now completely obscured from the intro—existing in reference only to itself and you

LSU Master's Theses
My thesis exhibition investigates concepts of memory and memorial. These are fueled by feelings of yearning, longing, and nostalgia. We allow memories to linger. I believe we try to strengthen these memories, encase them and tuck them away deep in our minds. These memories create in our psyche psychological memorials. Like physical memorials, our memories too deteriorate and crumble over time. We fill in the gaps to the point where it is unknown just how true these memories are. At times I think that mine are now idealized and idyllic then they really were. The paintings in my exhibit are …
