This year, The Promethean Staff wanted to encourage a large variety of entries. We wanted to get all sorts of submissions from all sorts of people. We didn't want to limit anyone. We also could not decide on a theme. So, we, the group of indecisive English majors, did what no literary journal staff has ever done before. The vision for The Promethean this year was a journal not afraid to be bold. Not afraid to disturb this universe that we perceive and expose reality. Leading the editorial staff this year as Managing Editor was not easy. My predecessors set the expectations high and have set a precedent of continual improvement; this seemed a little daunting.

Welcome to the 2009-2010 edition of The Skunk River Review!

We received a record number of entries this year, making this volume one of the best and most competitive! We even added a new category called Art & Literary Analysis to include a growing number of submissions dedicated to inspiration and critique. Each year we continue to receive many fine examples of student writing. Selection is a challenging process but enjoyable as the submissions range from a variety of topics and styles. Selected entries were only minimally edited for clarity.

The Broad River Review

The 2010 edition of The Broad River Review was edited by C. V. Davis. The publication contains fiction, non-fiction, art, poetry, and photography. The cover was photographed by Justin Roper. The winner of the J. Calvin Koontz Poetry Award, given annually for a portfolio of poetry to a senior English major, is Nicholas Laughridge. The Broad River Review Editor's Prizes in Fiction and Poetry are chosen among all submissions from Gardner-Webb University students. The prize in poetry was awarded to Jennifer Hart for her work titled, "In August." The prize in fiction was awarded to Sarah Steadman for her work …
