Lust plays a large role in Edmund Spenser’s famous 1590 poem The Faerie Queene—this much Early Modern scholars can agree on. Surrounding the purpose lust serves in this didactic tale, however, there is a good deal of contention. Using the psychoanalytic approach, I examine The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, A imitação da rosa by Clarice Lispector, and Cambio de armas by Luisa Valenzuela, particularly noting a common use of defense mechanisms between the stories. The characters examined in this essay exemplify two very different immigration experiences, which allows readers to remember the unique circumstances of all migrants. Written in Spanish.

Two theories, threatened masculinity theory and self-discrepancy theory, are also applied within the model. The model presented within this review can help give new direction to future research on men and …
