Supplementing The Binding Theory: On The Question Of Proper Binding, Hector A. Torres

In this essay I want to propose that the phenomenon of proper binding is relevant to the theory of grammar and suggest that, if allowed to play a part in the writing of a generative grammar, proper binding can serve as an interface between the form of the grammar and its use in discourse pragmatics. With the term proper binding I refer to the prescriptive and descriptive statement requiring that anaphor and bound pronouns agree with their antecedents with respect to person, number, gender.
