During the 1991 fall semester, President Thomas Meredith appointed a Task Force on Part-Time Faculty at WKU. He requested that the task force conduct a study and make recommendations to the university regarding such issues as part-time faculty compensation and benefits, rates of usage, quality of instruction, orientation and evaluation and administration and budgeting. The study was stimulated, in part, by the fact that the university has in recent years reached historic highs in the use of part-time faculty.

One hundred 9^th-grade students were divided into four groups of 25 each through systematic sampling procedures. Each of the groups were tested, pre and post, by the Otis-Lennon Mental Ability Test, forms J and K. During the pretest for all groups, the background condition of silence was observed. During the posttest, one group was again tested in silence. The other three groups were each tested to one of three background conditions: pop music, hard rock music, and soft rock music. Pop music played was characterized as more mellow, more melodic, and less intense than rock music. Hard rock …

This research tests a short term total academic language development program on the development of language delayed children. It was hypothesized that an increase in vocabulary and response length after a six week treatment program would be reflected on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and the Mean Length of Response Test. The treatment program utilized both the group and tutorial approach emphasizing the basic skills associated with listening, language, reading, writing and arithmetic. In order to gain some evidence as to what difference the use of some particular instructional methods would make, an experiment was carried out. The experiment reported in this study is an example of a small investigation which an in-service art teacher can make, along with his regular teaching. It compared the effects of two instructional methods or to different teacher behaviors, on the students, in teaching drawing. Two classes of students were taught drawing by the same instructor who deliberately modified the degree of "directiveness" used in his teaching. This study attempted to determine the relationship of educational, economic and social characteristics of those school districts with bi-racial student bodies operating in Kentucky and the degree of desegregation experienced voluntarily by those districts during the period from 1955-56 school year through the 1963-64 school year.

This study shows that the school census is dropping rapidly in rural areas. It must be remembered that with the introduction of more labor saving farm machinery and the consolidation of small farms that the end is not in sight.

A greater percentage of children are enrolled in our schools. The percentage of attendance is higher and will continue to slowly improve. As consolidation of small schools progresses, school plants and physical equipment will improve.

Over one-half of the children in average daily attendance are transported. Percentage of enrollment and percentage of attendance are much better in the transported group. …
