Technical Problem Based E-Language Instruction For Vocational Students, Eleni Papantoniou, Thanasis Hadzilacos

Eleni Papantoniou

We discuss an intervention in mother language instruction in a Greek Vocational Lyceum combining Web 2.0 tools with electronic writing pedagogy. During a full school year (2012-13), forty six 11th grade students with typically low literacy skills participated, randomly separated in control and experimental group. The latter systematically dealt with Technical Problem Solving and completed online (Edmodo) increasingly complex writing tasks. Encouraged to reflect on and solve technical problems, they activated language skills for communicating their solutions through the synthesis of technical text-genres. Meanwhile the control group followed the conventional teaching method using the usual literary texts. Pre and post-test …

Anthropological Evidence Of The 15 Intended Itaukei Tapa Cloth (Masi) Motifs Pre-Dating The Creation Of The Air Pacific/Fiji Airways Logo, Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka'uta

Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka'uta

This short paper examines the history of Tapa in order to show that the fifteen kesakesa designs identified as trade mark worthy by Air Pacific/Fiji Airways are a significant part of the cultural heritage of the iTaukei peoples of Fiji. It will also show that Tapa and the designs/motifs found within tapa are often shared cultural designs across the Pacific. The position taken is that all forms of cultural heritage expressions must remain the intellectual property of their indigenous owners from whom this knowledge, skills and art forms originate. NO COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE can or should claim the right to this …

The Kodaly Method In The Twenty First Century, Sharon Lierse

Dr. Sharon Lierse

Music methodologies provide educators with a defined curriculum which transpires students to a level of musical proficiency. They are often designed for young children and can be adapted to different cultures. The Kod_a_ly Method was developed in Hungary during the 1940s and is based on the premise that children should acquire music skills from an early age. It was first used in Hungarian schools and subsequently has been used in training institutions around the world. Since the implementation of the Kod_a_ly Method there have been many social, economic and political developments which have impacted arts and education. A group of …

Die Opvoedkundige Waarde Van Woordeboeke : Voorstelle Vir Woordeboekonderrig In Suid-Afrika, Michele Van Der Merwe Jan 2009

Die Opvoedkundige Waarde Van Woordeboeke : Voorstelle Vir Woordeboekonderrig In Suid-Afrika, Michele Van Der Merwe

Michele Van Der Merwe

Sustainable Living In The Pacific: Exploring The Role Of Multiculturalism In Teacher Education, Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka'uta Jan 2009

Sustainable Living In The Pacific: Exploring The Role Of Multiculturalism In Teacher Education, Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka'uta

Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka'uta

The Pacific is arguably one of the most diverse regions in the world, both culturally and linguistically. Although much has been said about the relationship between culture and education, the topic of multiculturalism in education is one that remains unexplored. Although sporadic discussions have occurred with reference to the fourth Pillar of „living together‟ in the Delors‟ report, much of the discourse surrounds the need to incorporate cultural knowledge and culture inclusive pedagogies into local curricula. The author is of the view that quality educational development requires an examination of multiculturalism in teacher education and training. This paper presents the …

Wine And Words : A Trilingual Wine Dictionary For South Africa : Project, Michele Van Der Merwe

Michele Van Der Merwe
