Based on Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper,” the following story depicts the vacation of a young woman and her fiancé to an isolated mountain cabin. Similar to the original text, the woman gains a fixation on a specifically colored item, this being the white snow outside. The intentions of this story were to depict how misogyny and female insanity have both evolved and remained stagnant throughout time. Even though the original text featured traditional concepts of misogyny while the following focuses on modern forms, the two show the same maddening fear of a woman in the presence of inequality. …

Fictional narratives and stories have persisted throughout human history. However, perhaps due to a bias that stories offered nothing more than entertainment for the reader or perhaps that they are not useful outside of the realm of academia, the research within science academia has been lacking in literature on why these narratives have endured. Unfortunately, due to the lack of conversation across disciplines, particularly those of science and literature, this subject has not been thoroughly investigated through an interdisciplinary lens. "Another Life” is a short story about going home again. The main character, Julie, returns home and reflects on the life she left behind after high school. She reflects on the love that she lost when she lost Chris, her high school boyfriend. On this trip home, Julie experiences the sickening discomfort of returning to a place and person she no longer is and is surrounded by the memories that never really leave. Chris and his memory never left Julie, and in the sickening claustrophobia of hometown life, she discovers the man he became and what could have been.
