This project investigates to what extent the African roots of popular music in Cuba and the United States are acknowledged and examines if this level of cultural acknowledgement has any influence on the postcolonial social, cultural, and economic treatment of African Americans and Afro-Cubans. Does a greater and/or more widespread acceptance of African cultural retention and overall African heritage in a country’s national identity help alleviate racism in that country? Coptic SCRIPTORIUM is a platform for interdisciplinary and computational research in texts in the Coptic language, particularly the Sahidic dialect. As an open-source, open-access initiative, our technologies and corpus facilitate a collaborative environment for digital research for all scholars working in Coptic. We provide:
- tools to process Coptic texts
- a searchable, richly-annotated corpus of texts using the ANNIS search and visualization architecture
- visualizations of Coptic texts
- a collaborative platform for scholars to use and contribute to the project research results generated from the tools and corpus

This article discusses the importance of romance in the fictional representations of the Indian Uprising in 1857 and the Raj in general. The uprising deeply impacted the psyche of both British and Indian writers; however, until the end of the Raj’s rule, only British and Anglo-Indian romances comprised the (official) literary output of the event. Bearing this in mind and considering that the literary and ideological format of romance with its emphasis on wish-fulfilment had stimulated a widespread imperial utilization, and that these romances later turned into highly influential historical documents, Arargüç contends that the romance became the authoritative narrative …
