Hayden L. Anderson was a prominent Maine educator and Maine historian. He graduated from Gorham Normal School in 1925, and subsequently earned degrees from Boston University and Bates College, as well as doing graduate work at Harvard University. He served as principal and superintendent in schools in central and northern Maine, and as Dean of Instruction at Farmington State College. He also worked in the State Department of Education and served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Maine. In recent years, bridge foundations have been in the spotlight throughout the nation. Bridges built over running water are susceptible to erosion or scour around their foundations. The reduction in load capacity to piers and abutments pose a safety risk to highway motorists. It has become necessary for engineers to examine and monitor these "scour critical" bridges. The difficulty arises with subsurface foundations of which very little is known about their construction. Hence, the methods applied to analyzing "Unknown Foundations" have become a necessary topic of research.

Acoustic Physical Modeling has emerged as a newer musical synthesis technique. The most common form of physical modeling synthesis in both industry and academia is digital waveguide synthesis. Commercially available for the past thirteen years, the top synthesizer manufacturers have chosen to include physical modeling synthesis in their top of the line models. In the area of audio quality testing, the most common tests have traditionally been group listening tests. While these tests are subjective and can be expensive and time-consuming, the results are validated by the groups' proper quality standards.
