Perceiving Oppression: Relationships With Resilience, Self-Esteem, Depressive Symptoms, And Reliance On God In African-American Homeless Men, Jill Littrell, Elizabeth Beck
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
Empowerment has been proffered as a desirable goal for many disadvantaged populations. The process of empowerment can include encouraging disadvantaged individuals to recognize the structural factors in society (e.g., discrimination, oppression, injustice) which contribute to disadvantaged status. Two studies sought to determine the impact that recognition of oppression has on a disadvantaged individual's (1) self-esteem; (2) level of depressive symptoms; (3) resilience which includes a sense of master y and optimism; (4) anger; and (5) reliance on God. Why Should Christians Care About Jews, William P. Haas

In this article, the author analyzes the theological and historical relationship between Christians and Jews. He asserts that such a dialogue must begin with understanding; therefore he discusses the major conflicts associated with and between these two religions. The author discusses the Catholic Church's stance on relationships between Christians and Jews, Jewish faith experiences, the Jewishness of Jesus, roots of animosity between the religions, the religious significance of the founding of Israel, and the Holocaust.

A discussion of a Dalit (Untouchable) Catholic catechist and communist activist in India. The article focuses on the use of bhajans by Kabir to articulate a Dalit Christian vision of redemption and salvation. The article also focuses upon Dalit resistances and social activism.

Much of the current discussion concerning the future of independent Ukraine has centered on the issue of nation-building. Two models of the Ukrainian state, (1) national (the state of the ‘Ukrainian people’) and (2) multi-ethnic (the state of ‘the people of Ukraine’), usually serve as starting points for scholarly discussions.2 It is quite obvious that the future of church-state relations in Ukraine will depend heavily on the choices made by the newly independent state in its nationbuilding strategy.
