The 1986 meeting of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association met at First Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC. The minutes are dedicated to the memory of Rev. Fred Wells. The Women's Missionary Union (WMU) celebrated its 100th Anniversary; the Association's chapter of WMU was recognized as Distinguished for 1985-6. Five committees were proposed to be added to the Constitution.

The State Missions report mentioned that the Board took on missionary work with Indians in Robeson County, and the Cherokees in Swain County. The Baptist Young People's Union (B.Y.P.U.) reported continued growth in membership. the Boilign Springs Junior College reported record enrollment growth. The College made arrangements to lease equipment and classrooms, and provide instruction for some high school subjects with the Cleveland County Board of Education.
