“‘Shaking the Heavens and the Earth’: Daniel and the Eschatology of Hebrews”— Hebrews 12:28 contains an allusion to Daniel 7:18. This allusion may seem vague at first, but its study reveals that this last passage feeds into the eschatology of Hebrews. The purpose of this article is to explore the role that the allusion to Daniel 7:18 plays in the argument of Hebrews 12:18-28 and in the understanding of the eschatology of the Epistle to the Hebrews. To this end, the article is divided into two sections. The first section examines the reasons for holding that there is an allusion …

The aim of furthering Christian living in mission and community is entirely valid, provided it does not take upon itself ultimate goals. Nor is there is any question that the Scriptures tell us of God’s purpose for the world, its beginning and its end: God created the world out of his own goodness; God yet rules the world despite humanity’s fall into sin; God will bring the world to its consummation through a final judgment; God has acted decisively for our salvation in Jesus Christ, in whom all things shall be consummated.

In sum, this is the basic biblical narrative in a nutshell, with the new creation brought about in the presence of King Yahweh incarnate in Jesus, who establishes the new Zion wherever he is present, no longer in the “land” of Judah.

Jesus’s own resurrection, however, is a first fruits and so a foreshadowing of that day. In his Son Jesus, Yahweh has initiated his eschatological reign of salvation on earth.
A Comparative Study Of The Apocalyptic Kingdom Of God In Second Temple Jewish Literature And The Teachings Of Jesus In Matthew, Jeremiah Stallman
A Comparative Study Of The Apocalyptic Kingdom Of God In Second Temple Jewish Literature And The Teachings Of Jesus In Matthew, Jeremiah Stallman
Masters Theses
The apocalyptic kingdom of God is a common theme in Second Temple Jewish literature. This kingdom is often presented differently in the various literary works of this era. This first chapter of this thesis considers the various aspects of the kingdom in relation to God's coming judgment and the coming messiah who is often seen as the one bringing judgment and setting up the kingdom of God. The second chapter elaborates upon Jesus' teachings about the apocalyptic kingdom of God and compares and contrasts them with the teachings of the kingdom in His day as understood through the Second Temple …

Suffering And Eschatology In Light Of An Exegetical Study Of 2 Thessalonians 1:4-5, Richard Shields
Suffering And Eschatology In Light Of An Exegetical Study Of 2 Thessalonians 1:4-5, Richard Shields
Master of Sacred Theology Seminar Papers
This paper examines suffering in light of an exegetical study of 2 Thessalonians 1:4-5.According to rhetorical analysis the exordium includes 1:1-12, with three major parts: epistolary prescript (1: 1-2); thanksgiving (1:3-10); and intercessory prayer (1: 11-12).2 Thus, this text occurs near the beginning of Paul's introductory thanks giving. 3 Many commentators appear to rush through this section in anticipation of examining the heart of the letter, chapter2.Recently, deSilva, commenting on 1 Thessalonians, "proposes that the thanksgiving section [of 1 Thessalonians 1] functions as much more than a captatio benevolentiae ....Rather, it addresses a real concern for the congregation(s)." Deus Absens-An Old Testament Judgment Motif, David Adams
Deus Absens-An Old Testament Judgment Motif, David Adams
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The purpose of this study is to show that not only was the Deus Absens, the Absent God, an important part of Old Testament thought, but also that this motif was used by the various authors of the Old Testament as one means to express the judgment of God. This is not to say that every text in which God's absence is referred to must be understood as a judgment text. In some cases God's Absence is to be attributed to His transcendent nature rather than to His judgment. This is particularly true of the many passages in the Psalms …

This study in Ezekiel shows how an Old Testament prophet, known for his somewhat bizarre symbolism, communicated to God's covenant people in the early exilic period the good news that Yahweh is indeed faithful to His covenant, yet at the same time sovereignly free.
The Law-Gospel Tension In Jeremiah, Theodore M. Ludwig
The Law-Gospel Tension In Jeremiah, Theodore M. Ludwig
Concordia Theological Monthly
The relationship between judgment and grace is a basic question in Biblical interpretation. God's fierce judgment and His unconditional grace stand side by side in the Biblical testimony, and on unresolved tension exists between these two aspects of God's self-disclosure. The tendency among Bible scholars today is to try to resolve this tension by building a "bridge" between judgment and grace, by some theological interpretation which demonstrates that God's judgment on His people leads directly to their salvation. In the study of the Book of Jeremiah the tension is commonly resolved by the idea of God's judgment as a disciplinary …
