The Lord's Providence To Work Evil For Good - Genesis 50:15-21, Elisabeth Nieshalla
The Lord's Providence To Work Evil For Good - Genesis 50:15-21, Elisabeth Nieshalla
Biblical Studies Student Projects
Genesis, the great first book of the Bible, concludes with a redemptive and reconciliatory scene between Joseph and his brothers that strikes the heart of those. Joseph had endured much hardship at the hands of his brothers, having been sold by them into Egyptian slavery and then thrown into prison when he was falsely accused of sexual assault by Potiphar’s wife. Through it all, however, he remained faithful to God and was entrusted with authority over all of Egypt to lead them through a famine that would have otherwise devastated the entire region. This scene in Genesis 50 testifies to …
God’S Forgiveness As Expressed In The Gospels, Rod Womer
God’S Forgiveness As Expressed In The Gospels, Rod Womer
LMU/LLS Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the twenty-two passages in the Gospels in which God’s forgiveness of human sin is explicitly addressed. Using modern textual, literary, form, redaction, and historical criticisms as exegetical tools, the examination maps out the development of these biblical vignettes so as to extract from the process an understanding of what the Gospel writers wanted to convey to Jesus’ followers about God’s forgiveness. Four distinct forgiveness modes were discovered: repentance leads to forgiveness (e.g. proclaim repentance and forgiveness to all nations in Lk 24:47), faith acts as a conduit to forgiveness (e.g. sinful woman kissing Jesus’ feet in Lk …

Excerpt: "Today, when the problem with the written word is not too little, but too much-- too much that is either a waste of time, vulgar, or blasphemous-- the power of a memorized creed lies in its reminder of the majesty of God, who He is, and our relationship to Him. Some Christians object to creeds, claiming the Bible is all they need. The mistake in this thinking is the idea that a Biblical creed is something outside the Bible, when in fact it is a memorable and valuable expression of Biblical truths that help us explain what we believe. …
The Puzzling Plurals In Philemon, Ernie Bursey
The Puzzling Plurals In Philemon, Ernie Bursey
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"this passionate appeal for Philemon to welcome his slave as a brother in the Lord explains Paul’s intention to include the members of the house church in the reading of the letter. If Paul’s efforts are successful in helping Philemon to embrace Onesimus as a brother in the Lord, that welcome will also need to be extended to him by the other brothers and sisters in the Lord in the little house church that met in Philemon’s house."

The Use Of Nśʼ In The Pentateuch And Its Contribution To The Concept Of Forgiveness, Gudmundur Olafsson
The Use Of Nśʼ In The Pentateuch And Its Contribution To The Concept Of Forgiveness, Gudmundur Olafsson
Dissertations
This study investigated the use of the root nśʼ in the Pentateuch in an attempt to discover its semantic relationship to the concept of forgiveness. Survey of the available literature revealed a near vacuum in this area, apart from a couple of careful but brief treatments. Other studies were either very cursory or only partially relevant to the present study. Most writers tend to relegate the concept of forgiveness to the derived meaning of "remove" without substantiating it exegetically.
Cognate languages affirmed the existence of the root and its range of meanings. The widest range of meanings and closest affinity …

This paper will then deal with a valid emphasis of the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant. Nor will the emphasis of this paper be unique with this writer. It is an emphasis that has not escaped the writings of many interpreters.

An Outline Of The First Epistle Of John, Martin J. Hasz
An Outline Of The First Epistle Of John, Martin J. Hasz

The chief isagogical problem of the Epistle is its structure. Dr. R. C.H. Lenski states: “A curious circumstance about the letter is the fact that it seems to have no divisions. Commentators divide it in one way or in another, and state their reasons for such a division; but when one reads the letter, the proposed divisions do not satisfy. They are upset by the series of repetitions and reiterations that occur throughout the letter. That fact makes some interpreters complain about the lack of logic; but this letter has no formal parts, such as we commonly use and expect. …

Conference Paper On Romans 4:5, H. J. Bouman
Concordia Theological Monthly
A very personal reason prompts the selection of my topic. In my senior year at the Seminary, I had not yet really learned what Christianity really is. To be sure, I was not a scoffer. Far from it. I yearned for the honor of being a Christian, but I did not dare. The sainted Dr. Bente had succeeded in crushing all my pride in human wisdom. In his lectures on the philosophical systems, ancient, medieval, and modern, he had shown us that human reason the moment it tried to explain transcendental problems disregards its own rules of logic in its …

Concordia Theological Monthly
At the portal of the new church-year we to-day stand in solemn awe, aware of the uncertainty of health and life and wondering what lies ahead of us. It is especially the spiritual side of our existence which is the object of our solicitous concern. Will the new year always find us firmly anchored in the wounds of Jesus, constant in faith, fervent in love, a temple of the Holy Spirit, ready to obey the final summons whenever it may come?
