Chargis A Study On The Word For Grace In The New Testament, Robert Zorn
Chargis A Study On The Word For Grace In The New Testament, Robert Zorn
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The scope of this present study is not to be distinctly Doctrinal, or historical, tracing the doctrine of grace and its various aberrations, through history, much as such a study would be interesting and instructive. That would take us too far afield. It is our purpose to confine ourself to an examination of the word χ͔χ́ρ͔ις itself, and to trace its use in the New Testament. Seeing the importance of the Doctrine of Grace, it is essential that we study the divinely revealed record, to see how the word is used. This must ever be the basis for all doctrine, …

The Life And Teachings Of John The Baptist, Reinhold Mueller
The Life And Teachings Of John The Baptist, Reinhold Mueller
Bachelor of Divinity
Thus it is the office of John• which we honor. The office of John was first of all to make the world humble, to call people to repentance and make them confess their sins, that is, to preach the Law. Secondly he was to preach forgiveness of sins and salvation, the sweet Gospel with all it’s comfort. Therefore he who reads Walther's "Gesets und Evangelium" may do well to study the teachings of John at the same time, and he will find it an excellent collateral reading tor his study. Of course we know that there are extremes on both …
St Paul's Use Of The Word Πνευμα, Paul Meyer
St Paul's Use Of The Word Πνευμα, Paul Meyer
Bachelor of Divinity
No one who studies the writings of St. Paul for any length of time can fail to note the frequent recurrence of this word and the importance which attaches to a correct understanding of its various shades of meaning. It occurs 149 times in the thirteen letters commonly ascribed to Paul, and, while there is in a study of Paul's conception of ηνε̂υμα a rich supply of material for investigation alike by the philosopher, the philologist, and the theologian, it is in the last field that its greatest value lies. Without a correct understanding of what Paul meant by the …
A Comparison Of Ephesians With Colossians, Martin Haendschke
A Comparison Of Ephesians With Colossians, Martin Haendschke
Bachelor of Divinity
In beginning a study of these two epistles of St. Paul one begins to understand what is meant by the “unfathomable wisdom or God.” As one delves deeper into the text, one must certainly realize that our human wisdom is indeed puny and inadequate; in fact, not even worthy to be termed wisdom! However, this is not to be a dissertation on the wisdom of man, nor is it in the least way to indicate that man can fully understand these great truths of Scripture as we find them in these two beautifully written epistles, but it is to attempt …
God's Manifestation As Jehovah In Exodus 3-15, 18, Willis Laetsch
God's Manifestation As Jehovah In Exodus 3-15, 18, Willis Laetsch
Bachelor of Divinity
It is remarkable that in the first two chapters of Exodus the expression "the Lord” is not once used. There only "God" is found; cp. the last three verses of chapter 2, where "God" is used five times in quick succession. Due to this notable lack of "the Lord" and the predominance of "God" in Genesis and the first two chapters of Exodus, critics have devised the theory of two authors, the Elohist and the Jahvist, the former in his record using the expression Elohim and the latter Jahweh. However, that is only the rationalistic point of view. In comparison …
The Work Of The Holy Ghost In The Pauline Epistles With Special Reference To Enthusism, Norbert Mueller
The Work Of The Holy Ghost In The Pauline Epistles With Special Reference To Enthusism, Norbert Mueller
Bachelor of Divinity
Ever since the beginning of the Christian Church, Satan has tried to corrupt also this precious doctrine. In this treatise we shall consider, above all, one perversion of the doctrine of the work of the Holy Ghost, namely, the error of Enthusiasm, which our Confessions describe as the folly of "fanatical men, who dream that the Holy Ghost is given not through the Word, but because of certain preparation of their own, if they sit unoccupied and silent in obscure places, waiting for illumination, as the Enthusiasts formerly taught and the Anabaptists now teach.”
Predestination According To Ephesians 1, 3-14, Delvin Ressel
Predestination According To Ephesians 1, 3-14, Delvin Ressel
Bachelor of Divinity
The last of these expressions shall form the basis for the outline of the present treatise, in this slightly altered form: "Eternal election of grace in Christ Jesus responsible for all the spiritual blessings of Justification, conversion, sanctification, and preservation." Part One will deal with, the Decree of Election, or Election in Eternity, while Part Two will deal with the Execution of this Decree, or Election in Time. Each part will treat the respective terms of the definition according to "Definition" and. "Proof."
