Art Theses

The concept that I explore in my thesis is the idea of marking moments in time by mental “snapshots” of events that are indelibly ingrained on the mind and can be theatrically portrayed through ceramics. That these moments birth opportunities to create a narrative between the artist and material, the art and the viewer, and between the works of art themselves was the impetus for the work, while also exploring what lies beneath the making and what might live beyond the exhibition. COVID-19 created, by necessity, a “slowing down” of time – and magnification of moments that one might otherwise …

Clear as Ice? - a look at the world below the surface of ice and water. When we think of ice we think of something that is cold with a clear or blur color that can be seen in most photographs of snow and ice. When ice melts, it becomes a liquid then it is gone. With my work I create pieces which can be displayed on the wall and functions on the table as well. The decorative imagery captures what happens when I am practicing automatic drawing on …

Images that often include spires of exoskeleton, creeping tendrils searching for sustenance, or something that moves in an unnatural way. After years of envisioning and automatically sketching out these "things" it is beginning to get a bit crowded in there. It was time to excise this world in my mind and bring it into existence through my hands.
Using many different materials, including plaster, wire, paper mache, epoxy, urethane resins, many different …
