San Francesco D'Assisi E Santa Caterina Da Siena. La Loro Influenza Sulla Letteratura, La Cultura, La Religione E L'Arte Italiana Dei Primordi, Ann-Frances Hamill
Master's Theses, Dissertations, Graduate Research and Major Papers Overview
Examines the works and thoughts of two Italian saints: Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) and Saint Catherine of Siena (1347-1380). Explores the common ideological denominator in the works of these major figures and analyzes their impact on Italian society and culture.

Lion In Winter – Tomás Moro Na Nossa Estação. Diálogos Com O Direito Constitucional, O Cristianismo E A Utopia Social, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
Lion In Winter – Tomás Moro Na Nossa Estação. Diálogos Com O Direito Constitucional, O Cristianismo E A Utopia Social, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Exploring Spaces: A Series Of Video Experiments, Nicholas R. Kinling
Honors Capstone Projects - All
My overall intention of this project was use the Honors Thesis Project to apply what I have learned while studying art video to create a collection of successful videos that allow me to work above and beyond the art video curriculum. I was eager to work independently on a long-term project, and the Honors Thesis Project provided me with both an exciting and challenging opportunity to display my academic initiative and creative drive.
Upon completion of the thesis project, I selected six video art pieces that I felt were most successful and relevant to the project theme. The theme of …

For the past 15 years I have been struggling to recover from the consequences of sexual abuse. I have been involved with many self abusive habits, including cutting different areas of my body. I have come to the understanding that these addictive habits evolved as a direct result of sexual abuse. The stories I am about to relate tell the fears and difficulties I have experienced as well as an account of the tremendous power that art has provided me towards a full recovery. I am writing this memoir in hopes that those who read it will better understand the …

Contemporary Art In Samoa: The Role Of Personal Expression, Christina Cioffari
Contemporary Art In Samoa: The Role Of Personal Expression, Christina Cioffari
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Contemporary art is a means of creating and recreating the self, a means of self reflection and defining ones identity. Conceptual art that expresses personal ideas and emotions plays a small role in the arts of Samoa, however it does exist in the minds and galleries of a few individuals. The intention of this study is to examine the role that personal expression plays in Samoan society and the artwork created here. The attitudes and approaches to contemporary art was explored, in addition to the underlying causes of those perceptions.
The foundation of this paper evolved out of statements from …

Arte En Las Calles, Graffiti En Granada: Un Movimiento En Cambio, Alyson Virginia Visser
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

The Portrait Of Citizen Jean-Baptiste Belley, Ex-Representative Of The Colonies By Anne-Louis Girodet Trioson: Hybridity, History Painting, And The Grand Tour, Megan Marie Collins
The Portrait Of Citizen Jean-Baptiste Belley, Ex-Representative Of The Colonies By Anne-Louis Girodet Trioson: Hybridity, History Painting, And The Grand Tour, Megan Marie Collins
Theses and Dissertations
Anne-Louis Girodet Trioson's Portrait of C.[itizen] Jean-Baptiste Belley, ex-representative of the Colonies, is evidence of the changing ideological situation during the French Revolution. Girodet was one of the most learned and accomplished students of Jacques-Louis David who strove to surpass his teacher in two ways: 1) by painting David's Neoclassical style so well that his handling surpasses that of his master, and 2) by choosing subject matter never before explored by David. Girodet accomplishes both within this work. The Neoclassical handling of the image has been achieved with amazing clarity, and the central figure of an identified black man …

William Anthony Fine Binder, Peter D. Verheyen
William Anthony Fine Binder, Peter D. Verheyen
Peter D Verheyen
William “Bill” Anthony (1926-1989) was arguably one of the most influential bookbinders and conservators in the US. His impact cannot be measured by his work alone but also by his legacy as demonstrated by all those he trained, many of whom are now leaders in the field in their own right. Lawrence Yerkes’ forward and Helen Ryan’s introduction to the catalog describe not only Anthony’s life and work, but also the emotional bond they had with him and his spirit that touched so many.

Socio-Cultural Degeneration And State Patronage Of The Arts: Mapplethorpe, Cultural Crisis, And The Nea, Greyson C. Brooks
Undergraduate Research Symposium (UGRS)
The goal of this paper is to investigate how the Untied States federal government, specifically through the National Endowment for the Arts, or NEA, has acted in the position of an arts patron in the past few decades. Specifically, this paper will focus on the past decade and a half since the 'arts crisis' of the late 1980s and the social and political backlash against the art community in the 1990s, which was only against ‘offensive’ art that was seen as morally and culturally corruptive. I explore the political, social, and economic forms the backlash took, particularly rooted in a …

Save El Paso's Arroyos, Anne Giangiulio
Anne M. Giangiulio
I designed the poster 'Save El Paso’s Arroyos: There are Over 1,000 Reasons Why We Should'. Copies of the poster were sold at the Hal Marcus Gallery’s 'Save the Arroyos' exhibit. This grassroots art show ran from July 27 and was sponsored by the Frontera Land Alliance to raise awareness of the importance of keeping El Paso’s arroyos free from development.

The German Case Binding, Peter D. Verheyen
The German Case Binding, Peter D. Verheyen
Peter D Verheyen
The case (Bradel) binding is the most common, general purpose binding structure in use by binders in Germany. What sets it apart from other case bindings is that the cover boards and spine stiffener are joined together with a strip of sturdy paper before covering. This allows the covers to be fit precisely to the textblock, especially at the joint and fore-edge. For this reason the structure is also very well suited to beginners. Books using this structure are generally covered in full cloth, paper, or a combination of the two. The structure is not well suited to leather binding …
