Type 2 diabetes mellitus is highly prevalent among African Americans. Africans born abroad are a subset of the African American population in the U.S., but few studies have been conducted on this population, a gap this study aims to close. The incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes continue to rise among this population. This study explored type 2 diabetes risk factors among Africans born abroad who were 20-45 years old in the U.S. This was a retrospective and quantitative cross-sectional study involving National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2014 type 2 diabetes data. Several researchers have identified social capital as a means to improve the social sustainability of communities. While there have been many studies investigating the benefits of social capital in homogeneous White communities, few have examined it in Black homogeneous communities. Juvenile delinquency continues to be a major social problem in the United States. One of the more salient problems with the juvenile justice system in the United States is its staggering incarceration rate, which poses a significant problem for youth exposed to the juvenile justice system, and the community as a whole.
