Design During A Pandemic: Application Of The Well Building Standard To Historic Engel Stadium, Laurel Getty
Design During A Pandemic: Application Of The Well Building Standard To Historic Engel Stadium, Laurel Getty
Honors Theses
Can buildings prevent the spread of disease through their design? This study argues that by employing the WELL Building Standard to an adaptive reuse project during the COVID-19 pandemic, human health and wellbeing is increased. Research shows that adapting existing buildings to the WELL Building Standard improves air quality, promotes clean contact, and strengthens immune systems (The International WELL Building Institute, 2020). Additionally, adapting existing historic structures maintains cultural significance within the community. This thesis creates a hypothetical adaptive reuse plan for adapting Engel Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee into Engel Concourse, a gathering place for students, UTC faculty, and community …

Appearances Do Matter! What Libraries Can Learn From Clinton Kelly, Nancy E. Fawley
Appearances Do Matter! What Libraries Can Learn From Clinton Kelly, Nancy E. Fawley
Nancy Fawley

Kelly, cohost of TLC’s What Not To Wear, spoke enthusiastically about the importance of one’s appearance and the necessity of making an extra effort in the way individuals present themselves. His keynote address, and the fact that a fashion expert was a speaker at a conference for librarians, sparked debates on Twitter and in the blogosphere. Do appearances matter? I say they do and add that this applies to buildings and objects, as well. Academic libraries, especially, could benefit from some …

There are a wide range of reasons why people succumb to the undesirable status of homelessness. By exploring the circumstances, we will be able to gain a better understanding of the issues, which in turn can help formulate supportive programs and inform environmental design solutions to accommodate their needs. Currently …

Interior Decoration. 1. Scope And Affinity With Architecture, T Watkins
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
AN instinctive urge for decoration has been felt by human beings since earliest times, when man first scratched crude designs on the walls of his cave, or daubed his primitive dwelling with muds, pigments and anything else at his disposal.
