Over the past 100 years, the Saudi dwelling has undergone a series of transformations in its form, design, and function. These evolutions were the result of economic, regulatory, intellectual, and many other influences (Bahammam, 2018). During COVID-19 lockdown, people had to live a new lifestyle, practiced learning and working remotely, and had to stay longer hours at home and keep social distance apart. Daily prayers and outdoor leisure were only limited to the confines of the household. Residents had to consider preventive health precautions such as the use of sterilizing tools and allowing for natural ventilation and daylight.

Hurricanes impact individuals and communities on many levels - emotional, physical, mental, financial - to name a few. Every time a hurricane occurs, lives are drastically altered forever. One of the ways that hurricanes impact individuals and communities most powerfully is through the effect that they have on housing. Unleashing uncontrollable damage to infrastructure and the built environment, hurricanes exacerbate housing problems that exist and create new ones where they did not exist before. Hurricane Michael, which catastrophically impacted the Florida Panhandle in 2018, is a case study in which the impact that hurricanes have on housing is prevalent.

Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium was built as the Mirza Temple (Masonic) for the Pittsburg Chapter. Construction of the building began in 1923 and finished in 1925. In 1945, the temple was purchased by the city of Pittsburg after voters approved the use of bonds in the purchase. The Memorial Auditorium was dedicated to the servicemen of WW1 and WW2, as well as the devoted women and Red Cross nurses who accompanied them. Various influential entertainers have …

As a precedent, The Green Team analyzed the history of glass architecture, literature, and culture. Based on our research, we found that glass is often depicted as breakable, delicate, and a way to expose or display aspects that would otherwise be hidden. We challenged ourselves to incorporate safety and privacy into our glass house as a way to combat the pre-existing notions of glass in architecture.

This thesis explores the relationship between natural air and high-rise office typology and questions “has air been neglected as an essential element of spatial design, and if so, what are the consequences of such neglect?” Pre-1900, office buildings relied on natural ventilation to function. With the advent of technology such as air conditioning in 1902, accompanied by innovations in standardized steel, artificial lighting, and hydraulic elevators at the turn of the century, office buildings got bigger, taller, and deeper for economic benefit.
