Three-dimensional (3-D) virtual environments have key affordances that can improve learning, particularly when context, culture, and pedagogical aims are aligned to a given learning situation. One challenge in detailing effective uses of 3-D virtual environments in teaching and learning contexts is that the design judgments involved are not always made explicit. We argue that the transparency of design judgments, as it relates to the use of 3-D virtual environments, are critically important. This article advances scholarship of emerging technologies by detailing the design judgments of a university instructor within a Design for Social Impact cross-disciplinary course. The creation of irregular curves has evolved from employing splines to computer aided design (CAD); with French Curves being an integral part of this evolution. Such curvilinear irregularity can be seen in the curve of the auditorium at the new academic building. This project investigates the origins of the French Curve, in terms of its history, usage, and mathematical components. For centuries, French curves were used to accurately create portions of ellipticals and other curves in schematic drawings. The commonly used Burmester set contains an amalgamation of mathematical equations where the point of inflection is not symmetrical. These are derived …

The accumulation of water runoff during rain storms is a major problem in New York City’s combination water systems, forcing water treatment plants to release untreated excess water. To avoid overfilling of the sewer system by this grey water, pocket parks and gardens will be used to absorb the excess rainfall. We will be harnessing nature’s resources with current technologies such as: solar panels combined with rain catching canopies, to beautify the environment, educate the public about sustainability, stimulate growth to local businesses through increased foot traffic and bringing social awareness on environmental issues.

Whether constructing on undeveloped land or on an existing developed site, there is a risk of encountering unexpected objects when excavating. With today’s technology in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), this risk can generally be mitigated. Using Whiting-Turner’s construction of Stanford University’s new ChEM-H & SNI Building as an example, this case study discusses the use of GPR for underground mapping, as well as various ways to implement GPR technology. violence that occurred on Vietnamese soil.
Craters the size of lakes cover the countryside.
People live daily with the injuries and birth
defects resulting from malicious warfare. Though
the fighting is over, the suffering is not. Also

The Urban Oasis is designed to work within existing “pocket parks” in New York City as a combined rainwater collector, personal electronics charging station and resting designation for New Yorkers. Intended to not only lessen the demand on the city power grid by using renewable energy to charge devices, the urban oasis is also intended to mitigate grey water overfill in New York’s combined sewer system and, in general, serve as a model for responsible environmental stewardship in urban areas.

An oxbow in a river creates a peninsula with a unique environment, distant from the surrounding land. Similarly, the oxbow-shaped Federal Center South Building 1202 contains a peninsula, an enclosed atrium, with an environment unlike the flowing current of offices that surround it. The cool modern offices are contrasted with the warmth of the central timber structure. The exposed timber beams and columns consist of wood reclaimed from a warehouse that previously stood on the site. In conversation with the modern oxbow of offices, the timber is reinforced by steel beams, giving it new life.

Theall's shelter design was a short-listed entry into the 2018 Bee Breeders’ European Velo Stops competition, which tasked architects with designing a series of cost effective, environmentally responsible, and energy-efficient cabins for overnight stays along the EuroVelo 6 bicycle route which spans 3,600 km and 10 European countries. Often a subject to ambiguity and interpretation, building codes and compliance with them require years of expertise to understand and to integrate into good design. Automation of code compliance through Building Information Modelling (BIM) removes the human aspect from these processes and ensures building codes are correctly adhered to. ในขณะที่การพัฒนาทางด้านเศรษฐกิจกระจายเข้าสู่เมืองต่างๆ ทัศนียภาพของแต่ละเมืองถูกปรับเปลี่ยนตามการพัฒนาของเมืองแบบไร้ทิศทางที่มีความเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกันและสูญเสียอัตลักษณ์ของทัศนียภาพและวัฒนธรรมของแต่ละเมืองนั้นไป หลังจากที่สำนักงานนโยบายธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม กระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม ได้ประกาศพื้นที่ในจังหวัดน่านและจังหวัดพะเยาให้เป็นเมืองเก่า ในปี พ.ศ.2549 และ พ.ศ.2559 ตามลำดับ การเก็บข้อมูลและการสร้างวิธีการในการอนุรักษ์เมืองเก่าเหล่านี้จึงมีความสำคัญมากโดยเฉพาะในเรื่องสีที่มีผลมากที่สุดในการรับรู้ จากการสำรวจภาคสนามที่เมืองเก่าน่านและเมืองเก่าพะเยา ผู้วิจัยได้ทำการเก็บข้อมูลตัวอย่างสีด้วยระบบสี Natural Color System จากอาคาร 261 หลัง และทำการวิเคราะห์ เปรียบเทียบระหว่างเมืองเก่าน่านและเมืองเก่าพะเยาด้วยวิธีการทางสถิติในสองรูปแบบ ได้แก่ การเปรียบเทียบด้วยค่าเนื้อสี และการเปรียบเทียบด้วยค่าความสว่างสีและความสดสี จากข้อมูลที่ทำการวิเคราะห์และเปรียบเทียบสามารถสรุปได้ว่า แม้เมืองเก่าน่านและเมืองเก่าพะเยาอยู่ห่างจากกันไม่มาก แต่ทั้งสองเมืองเก่ามีอัตลักษณ์ทางด้านสีที่แตกต่างกันอย่างชัดเจนโดยเมืองเก่าพะเยาจะมีแนวโน้มที่จะมีค่าสีที่มืดกว่าและสดกว่าเมืองเก่าน่าน
