Urban sprawl is a phenomena that affected the entire world, in particular the capital cities. There are different cases and forms of the city extensions, which influence the community in many ways, like: social behaviour, economic prosperity, irrational land use, infrastructure disorder, energy inefficiency as well as polluted environment. This paper explores typical examples of urban sprawl evident in European cities and the core reasons of its appearance.
