Prepared by the Fall 2012 Conservation of Historic Building Materials class. This Historic Structure Report contains a historical overview of the Sherrill House, an interior and exterior architectural description, a conditions assessment of the interior and exterior of the structure, recommendations for treatment and future use, and a maintenance plan. The purpose of this report is to provide a current assessment of the condition of the property, recommendations for needed repairs and options for future use of the structure.

Prepared by the Preservation Planning class in spring 2012. These design guidelines act as general policies regarding structures, additions, new construction, and site work for the proposed Lithonia Historic District. Lithonia’s proposed guidelines have been drawn to include a commercial and residential historic districts. The guidelines would serve as reference to both those included within the proposed district and outside of it. Lithonia is also included in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. The guidelines would act to preserve Lithonia’s historic character.

the spatial structure of the city of Atlanta has shifted significantly as the city grew. It emerged from a pattern of colliding grids, which bridged the railroads, and an analysis of these early maps illustrated a centrally located area of dense street connectivity distinct from the spaces that are more easily accessible in terms of direction changes – where direction changes describe cognitive rather than metric accessibility. As the city grew and additional clusters of higher local density emerged, each isolated from the other, a multi-centered city was established with ever increasing fragmentation of the Directional Reach structure.Eventually, then, the …
